Asherman's Syndrome/ Chronic Pelvic Pain??

I have had really weird menstrual cycles.  Lately:
3 days of light brown disharge
42 days of no discharge but dull, achy cramping
3 days of a light period
4 days of nothing
4 days of cramping again
3 days of light period
3 days of cramping again

Have never had miscarriage but did have cone biopsy with d& c few years ago.  I am healthy, on birth control pill.  Have had test for cysts & they didn't see any.  Dr said to go off pill & see if gives me regular period...does that sound like a good suggestion?
