TSH 234

My TSH was 234 yes thats not a mistake. That was 5/2006. My TSH  level has never been normal it was changed today. When my level was so high i was very skinny now that it is closer to normal i am 25 lbs heavy. I had hair loss, allmost scitsofrenic like symptoms.I would think someone was going to get me at times.,Then i would just have break downs and cry for no reason,my muscles felt like jelly when i would stand up sometimes. My eyes were even effected.DRS had every excusse in the book.I have had 3 different thyroid Doctors and  today is the first my vitamin D level was checked. It  WAS LOW.I also have other autoimune problems.Antiphospholipid syndrome, menieres, raynolds, and possibly lupus, factor 5.will my thyroid ever be regulated and couldnt i just have it removed?this is a very depressing disease.diagnosed with hashimotos.

im so surprised to  see alot of ppl with such high TSH, i just spent 2 days in emerge cuz i came in with heart attack like symptoms, nows im only 24 my tsh 5 months ago was 214, but i felt ok i guess, but when i came  into the hospital my tsh was 181so down 30 some odd points, but the key factor is your t4 and t3 levels, now the doctors said mine werent that bad, which go's along with me taking my dose every other day or so, but i recently started xcercising and quit taking my anxiety meds and quit smoking, all this apearently was too much for my over taxed heart what with all the stress of low thyroid and doing nothin for a long time and smoking, but i can attest to saying you can feel like crap from your thyroid with a tsh of even 30 its the t4 and t3 levels you need to look at. im never taking this stuff for grante agian, i had ecg's done and an ultrasound of my heart not to mention saw 5 different cardiologist's till i saw the big dog cardio bossman, its not worth the extra anxiety on your heart cuz if your hypo or like me had your thrroid destroyed with radioactive iodine, take care of it, eventually untreated it will kill you

Do you have the reference ranges for your T4 and T3?  These vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report.  Also, are they free T3 and free T4 or total T3 and total T4?  If they don't specifically say "free", they're total.

Your Hashi's isn't being managed properly.  With proper dosage of Synthroid and perhps adding a direct source of T3 to your meds, your symptoms should be relieved.

Please post your ranges, and we can give you a better idea of what you should do.  Don't settle for feeling crappy.

I just got back from the endocrine DR. My levels are: TSH 214.4, T4 2.2 and T3 69  I was told not to take Iron as it interferes with the synthroid I am on (150micro).
In 2001 I was diagnosed with Hashimotos, a prolactinoma, and hypothyroidism. I am slightly under average weight. My legs used to hurt, I slept all the time, and I lost quite a bit of my ability to concentrate and remember things. My skin is dry, I have Reynoids (sp)....nothing has changed since then.

We are in a similar boat. I found the VitD did NOTHING for me. I have found the same for synthroid.  I feel like I have just grown accustomed to feeling crappy.  Hope you feel well soon. Keep me updated!

Thank you for the information.I will definatly have it checked. It sounds like you know alot about this.im not sure what the level was today but i was at 88 then up to 100 now today 112mg but im sure this wont last long.i think they just wait for the thyroid to die.i have never had the b12 checked.i do have anemia but not sure what pernicious anemia is.The level today cant be off by much they just keep changing it around like crazy.i am tired but i have come a long way.i will get those blood work results she gave me 50,000 units of vitamin D a week.So i pill a week for that.I Also take 324 asprin daily.along with iron, plaquanil, synthroid and folic acid.i know the Last time i had blood work  the automated differential says automated lymph was 52.0 normal is 1.0-3.0 do you know what that is for because its always high.just wondering?my red blood count is always low 3.0 and white was 3.7 i have also had a positive ANA  in december of 2007. says 320 speckled.do you know if this would come from hypothyroid.

It's possible that your lupus symptoms are really thyroid symptoms.......

You should also have your vitamin B12 levels tested; with all those other autoimmunes, there's a possibility that you could add pernicious anemia to them.   B12 deficiency also causes a some thyroid/lupus type symptoms.......

As goolarra said - please post whatever labs you have, along with reference ranges, so members can comment more fully on your particular situation.

What was your TSH today?  Is your doctor testing free T3 and free T4 as well as TSH?  If so, please post results along with the ranges from your own lab report (they vary lab to lab).

Are you on meds?  If so, which and at what dose?

It sounds like your doctor is not adjusting your meds properly at all.
