Ultram/Tramadol is ReallyDangerous. Its slowly killing me!

To: All it may concern. Beware of Ultram/Tramadol! This is old News but a little of personal experience.
I've been taking them for several years due to bad back/neck pain. I also take lorcet for the actual pain. The ultram is just to feed the addiction. I can stay off the lorcets if I need to and withdrawals are not very bad as i've developed a way to ween myself off lorcets/percocets/vicodins whatever I was prescribed. I'm down to about 2-4 ultram a day now and ithink its really killing my mental state. Depression and anxiety are killing me. I'm now taking clonopin .5mg for anxiety and soon to take effexor 75mg for depression. I've noticed for the past 6-7 years i've been taking this drug that i've been spiraling out of control. I wish I could find a good doc to get me off them instead of feeding them to me. I miss my old self...I really feel this drug may have screwed up my past 7 years or so.
Thanks for this thread, this may have opened up a new life for me!
Feel free to ask or comment back,I have many questions but no answers..........

welcome ,
Are you going to taper off ? I am concerned that you are mixing an anti depressant with ultram be very careful when mixing the two you really raise your risk of seizures .I have been clean from tram since sept there is a better life out there for you.

Previously my Dr had had me on anti-depressants. I had one seizure but they don't think it was related???
I have tapered off. Have been tapering down to this amount for a couple months. I'm trying to take i in am and 1 in evening but am still having symptoms. Gonna have to get help of some kind. Been on them for so long. I'm afraid their gonna kill me.....

I was taking 8-14 a day at one time, they are the 50mg tablets. I've just been on them for so long,my body won't function without them and starting not to with them.Somedays more and less some. Depended on my pain level. I've had a Compression Fx of C6 and have had Lumbar Fusion Surgery on L4-L5. I don't take Narcotics(Lorcet) every month to be able to come off and not be addicted. I do have to take them though due to the chronic pain. I also take a lot of Ibuprofen and Excedrin. Also some Herbal remedies for pain control and relaxation.

i would really question what that seizure was related to. you stated you use these to wean yourself off the other opoids. but you are hanging on to that last 2. you can function without them. you will most likely be extremely fatigued and depressed. that is common upon withdrawal of any opoid. we have all suffered from this when we detox. at your current dose why don't you just decide to quit. the symptoms will not be that much different. after you cleanse your system you will notice you feel much better, your pain will improve as well. the narcotics are making your pain worse, not better.

That sounds good. I wonder how long these side effects are gonna last and how much worse? Its really playing a big mental part on me being at this low of a dose. I never thought i'd get addicted to these,of all things...

If you are down to two a day then it wont be that bad, Maybe a little discomfort for a few days but you will be fine! You will feel so much better once they are gone!

you hit the nail on the head. with the dose you are down to it is mental. all of us fear what will happen when our drug is gone. once you realize that your withdrawal will not be that bad you will be able to let go. your physical withdrawal should amount to a week or so. but nothing worse than what you are experiencing. ultram is very addictive. it is an opoid. a lot of physicians do not get this. it was originally marketed as a non addictive painkiller. it is not. just as addictive as lortabs, etc. trust me, if you stop now you will feel so much better this time next week.

OH MY GOSH
Please please I am new very new to this forum.  My family and I just buried my sister last week from tramadol/ etc seizure/overdose.  This is NO JOKE.  She was only 47!  This is why i am making the effort to get off my little addiction of a couple of vicodins a day.

I dont want ANY family to go thru what we have just gone through.  My parents went into her apt. and found her slumped over at the dinner table.  This has been the most horrible time of our lives.

Please think about your loved ones that live and love you.

This is going to be the hardest thing to do, but you have only two options.  Ending up like my precious sister or kicking this **** to the curb.  There is SO much out there besides this addiction.  It seems IMPOSSIBLE to "see the forest for the trees".  But there is life beyond these drugs.  We just gotta make a little clearing so we can remember what it was like before......

Please hang in there -

I am Truly Saddened to hear this tragic news. I'll keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers!
Tramadol/Ultram is very BAD!!!
It has changed me completely and the thought of not having my 2 pills a day scares me to death! I have went once for 2 days without any, after dosing down to 2-4 a day and thought I was gonna die. As soon as I got my 'fix' I was a lot better. There has to be something to help with these symptoms!!!
You hang in there too,
       John

Thanks so much..

Yes, this is terrible stuff, really, ANYTHING that takes a hold on us the way these drugs do.

I dont really understand Tramadol, but she took it cuz she had rheumatoid arthritis.  She was always in pain, poor thing.  So, tram causes seizures?  I had heard that.

I know there are drugs to take for codeine abuse like suboxone or something like that.  But is there something for tramadol?  We gotta find out.

Take care and thanks for the kind words.

I'm not sure if there is anything to help supplement the withdrawals but i'm looking in to it. I tried to not take my second one last night and by this morning I was so dizzy/lightheaded and felt flu like sickness. I could hardly walk or move. I know I'm on a low dose now but the side effects are still as bad as they always were.
It just Ticks me off that my Dr pushed these on me and claimed them to be non-habit forming. I wish I could function without any meds but the 24/7 pain I go through makes that difficult. I just want off this poison(tramadol)!!!
If it wasn't for the dizziness I think I can do it. I can handle being sick but not the other.
I hope others read this and take caution with ultram and stay away from it.

john, look into the supplements listed in the thomas recipe. they will help. the dizziness could simply be mild dehydation. i know this does not feel good but these symptoms are manageable. do not let the fear get to you. your addicition is messing with your mind. it is telling you that you need this to survive. quite the opposite. take one half your normal dose next time if that helps you mentally.

I drink plenty of water and still get the dizziness/lightheadedness and sickness everytime I go without. I REALLY want off of these!

yHow to use the recipe:

Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.

With breakfast, take the mineral supplement.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.

you do not have to use the benzodiazepines. you can use tylenol pm or melatonin for sleep you can deal with the anxiety without them, it is best as they are addictive as well. all of this can be found in a health food store. most can be found in any pharmacy. good luck.

Thank You for the wealth of information. I will try to do this soon as I can. I'll have a problem obtaining the Valium as my Dr won't do that anymore. Been like that for a cpl years. Should be able to get all the other ok.
Thanks so much for giving me all that info, its greatly appreciated! I'll report back and keep posted of whats going on. Thanks 1234BetterLife!!!

How much of the B6 and what strength do I take daily? Also, what mineral supplement do I take with breakfast? Just a Multi-vitamin?
I can take ambien for sleep and have a couple .25mg peach xanax put back in case their needed. Sounds like they may come in handy for the first 4 days. Thanks for the help!

This is well worth the fight.  You truly sound ready to get off this "poison" as you put it.

I am not sure how much B6 but I just take a womans multi vitamin... CatfishJohn is manly enough, I am sure,  to be secure with his masculinity and get in touch with his feminine side?  Take a Prenatal vitamin if thats all ya got in the house!  Whatever it takes, is what I say!

Yesterday I only took 1 ultram. I haven't had any as of yet today. I only have 6 left and no refills. I'm gonna attempt to go 1 a day for a couple days then half for a cpl days. The withdrawals are getting me pretty good. I'm lightheaded and dizzy. No appetite and nauseous(sp).
Also,on Christmas of all days I managed to "Freakishly" throw out my mid back and pull a muscle from my right shoulder to my back all the way around to my chest. Its extremely painful. Ibuprofen is making it tolerable.
I found the L-Tyrosine but had to order it for the best price. Should get it next week. I also got my B6 vitamins and multivitamins.
I'm READY to beat this Demon!!!

The "Freakishly" way I messed up an already 'Un'Fixable back is I turned to my left and leaned slightly to drop small box in the trash. Weird!!! Soon as it happened I felt it 'Pop' and it took my breath away. That was around 1-2 and the rest of the day just went down hill from that... Just goes along with my other back/neck problems...LOL!
Glad I own a T.E.N.S. Unit!
