Dear Nextor,
Has your mother had surgery for her cancer? It is extrememly important to surgically remove as much of the cancer as possible. Chemotherapy alone is not adequate therapy. There are situations where 1 to 2 cycles of chemotherapy is gven first because the cancer is too big to be removed or the person is too sick to undergo surgery. There is clear information that interval surgery is best done after just a few chemotherapy treatments. the survival from ovarian cancer drops if more chemotherapy is given before surgery.
Please let us know
take care
doctors are suggesting to go for surgery after 1-3 cycles of chemotherapy.after each chemotherapy condition of patient will be evaluated for possible operating conditions.MRI has suggested presence of lymphnodes also.to be frank i want to ask a clear questoin??how much average time of life my mom has?? please suggest if this treatment is going in the right direction.??my patient was not given IP chemotherapy ??has that been god in this condition.?
please give me directions.
regards,
nextor
Dear Nestor,
It is important to surgically remove what can be removed as soon as possible. Prognosis will depend on the extent of surgery, the ability to remove all the cancer surgically, the stage of the cancer, the grade of the cancer, and a person's age. So at the present time, I can not comment on your important question.
Intraperitoneal (IP) chemotherapy is only used after optimal surgical removal of the cancer. It is not indicated when a person has not had surgery. It is not indicated in the situation where an optimal surgery (which is defined as the removal of all the cancer or there being less than 1 cm of cancer remaining after surgery) is not possible.
please let us know how things goes
best wishes
