surgery

I talked to my doctor the other day, after having a FNA with ultrasound, the tumor has grown from 6mm to 14x14 mm and was vascular.  I asked if it was a tumor or a cyst and was told it was a tumor.  My doctor told me that the results were highly suspicious so I asked if it was benign or malignant and was told it was malignant. I was not told was type of thyroid cancer it was and was referred to a surgeon. Do you think the surgeon will know what type or stage it is?  He is an endocrinologist and oncologist as well.

This discussion is related to Suspicious thyroid biopsy - surgery recommended?.

hang in there and I agree with stella that educating yoursel is very important. You will find a lot of support here. I had my thyroid removed without biopsy and I am glad I did. Even if you have cancer it will be ok. from what I learned they are much easier to trat than any other and not as devastating as let's say breast cancer. keep us posted!
by sharing your experience you help a lot of people.

if the FNA discovered Follicular cells it could be either follicular cancer or follicular adenoma. The final determination is possible only after surgical removal of affected lobe.In case of adenoma no radiation is required.

Most definately.  When is your appt? Try to read up on papillary carcinoma to just be a little prepared.

If that is what is speculated - which if cancer ----it is most cases. You will understand alot of what the endo will be talking about.

Good Luck
