effects of thyopid removal

I had my thyroid removed last august 4, i was prescribed to take eltroxin 50mcg 1x a day... after a month i had my tsh and the result is 72.59 and the doctor asked me to take the eltroxin to 2x a day for a month...now my question is what is going to happen if my tsh is still high and what is the effect in my body now my thyroid was removed i had nearly total thyroidectomy. Can you please explain what are the disadvantages of my case. I am perfectly feeling good right now unlike when I had my thyroid I had my allergies, dry skin and urticaria when I go out of the sun.
I just want to learn more of my situation because of scare of whats gonna happen in the future. I am 39 years old female, by the way my mom and my aunt had their thyroid removed too.
Thanks and appreciate your time.

My husband had his entire Thyroid removed 2 weeks ago. He has Hurthle Cell Cancer and another kind of Cancer. His TSH is: .2. Is that Normal or not? He is so Fatigued. Can't barely Move. He has been on some type of Synthroid and it's a pill and it's not working.

Hi,

it is usual to take the eltroxin in 1 dose a day, rather than two.  However, it doesn't matter one or two doses a day, as long as your TSH comes down to the appropriate level (1 - 2).

Once your TSH is at the appropriate level,  you will need to maintain your meds for the rest of your life.  This is not so hard.

You will also need to have your thyroid levels tested every 6  - 12 months, or more often if you are having symptoms as thyroid levels can change over time.

Wonderful that you are feeling so much better.  Possibly your current dose of meds is right.

Learn as much as you can about thyroid so you can be knowledgable and proactive in your own long-term management.

Best wishes

hi and welcome!

May I ask why it was removed?  Autoimmune or cancer suspect?

There are other meds if this one doesn't work .......

I wish I had more answers for you .. others will jump in I'm sure!
