Concerta question

Ricky had started Concerta at the end of the month of Novenber. He was on 18 mg (btw he just turned 7 and weighs 47 pounds),at the beggining we noticed a HUGE difference, the change lasted until the a week before the xmas break, then he seemed to fall back into his old pattern, attention problems, lost and playing alot with his fingers. So I had a doc appointement a uped his dose to 27 mg.I have this for 2 weeks and another prescrition for 36 mg if we don't see any difference. It's been a week and still nothing, just like before.I was wondering, can I give Omega 3 in the same time?Do you think it would help? And if I decide to up his dose to 36 mg and still see no difference, what are the other kind of meds out there?I'm at the end of my rope here. The teacher is doing all she can,but she also has 16 other kids to tend to,I can't expect her to tend to onl mine kwim?

She is great and I know for a fact that she does all she can.

Please suggestion needed!

TIA
Chantal

As an alternative to the prescription meds for ADHD I put my son on 2 products called Brightspark and Focus. I get them from www.nativeremedies.com and they work wonders. I have had so many problems with the ritulin and concerta that it got to the point where the meds were doing more harm than good. These products are rather pricey..I think it's about 150. for a 3 month supply of both, but they are all natural and there are very little side effects. And the side effects from the ritulin and concerta were really harming my son. I encourage all of you to look into these 2 things, they really work just as good as the prescription meds.

Hello Tia
Sherry is right you do need to give it time. My son is now on Concerta. we started on Strattera (sp) first and kept going up on the mg. like the Dr said. After 3 months I still didn't see any changes with him. I brought him back to the Dr and they put him on Concerta...we started at a low dose and now after changing the doses and given it time he is up to 54mg. and that did the trick, but once he got home from school he was out of control again. So we went back to the docs in September for a med check and I explained everything to the Dr we decided to try a low dose of Methalyn 15mg for 1 o'clock to get him through the night. That worked wonderful we saw a huge change in him, but once it was time for bed, guess who wouldn't go to bed....Yup....my son. So this was going on and 6 weeks later we ended back in the docs for another med check, he started him on Tennex (low dose) for morning with his concerta and at night to relax him. I'll tell you that little pill worked. I know it seems like a lot of pills for a 6 year old, but he is feeling and acting so much better. His grades have gone up, he loves life again and he can stand himself. I know it's so hard, but you can't give up and eventually you will find that happy/medium. I wish you the best of luck!!!

You don't need to worry about what other meds are out there just yet....just know that there are many other meds that can be tried if this one doesn't work.  It's mostly a trial and error kind of thing....and sometimes there are meds that do fine at the beginning and then seem to have no effect....hang in there!  I can't say I have any experience with the Omega 3...but you can call your pharmacist and they should be able to help you out.
