my best friends xanex addiction

My best friend has been abusing xanex for about two years heavily. He's been takin about six "bars" a day mixed with other pills I tried many time to get him to stop. He is not the same person I knew in the past what can I do to save him. Is he in need of a intervention with all his family and friends need help worried he won't make it to 2011!!?

It depends on the doctor and how well he knows his patient. I started taking Xanax last August for panic attacks resulting from high cortisol caused by inhaled steroids. I use the smallest dose on as needed basis, while being treated for my adrenal condition. I was not put on a maintenance dose and the doctor knows me well enough to know that I understand the dangers and that I do not have an addictive personality. I works just fine and now I have to use it only rarely.

You may get better information on the substance Abuse forum ,however I blame the prescribing Doctor here it is well known that Xanax is addictive and good Docs will not prescribe it for more than a few weeks because of this..
