There goes IBK talking out of her "cough, cough" again!! Everyone knows the Packers season is going to be over with tomorrow.

IBK explained the conferences quite well. If you go to NFL ******* and click on standings which is towards the top of the page you will see how the conferences and divisions break down. During the playoffs the AFC (American Football Conference) are always on the left hand side of the playoff bracket and the NFC (National Football Conference) are always on the right hand side of the playoff bracket. If you google NFL Playoff Bracket you can see how the playoffs break down. During the regular season a NFC team can play an AFC team at any time. But each team always plays a team that is in their Division two times each season. The games where you play a team in your division are always the most important because if you win your division you are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Then there are also 4 "wildcard" spots. The wildcard spots are the qualifiers which are non divisional champions with the conferences best records. Look at Seattle. There were plenty of other teams that had a better record than them but since the teams in their division didn't have that great of record they were still able to win their division with a 7-9 record which got them a spot in the playoffs. So, like I mentioned before during the regular season an AFC team can play and NFC team but during the playoffs the AFC only plays AFC teams and NFC teams only play NFC teams. They do this in order to get the best team from each conference into the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl then consists of the best team from each conference. So the Super Bowl will always be played by one team from the NFC against a team from the AFC.

Here's an explanation I found that probably explains it better than I could.

The NFL's 32 teams are split into two conferences, the American Football Conference and National Football Conference. Each conference of 16 teams is split into four four-team divisions, called the East, West, North and South, so the teams are generally placed in their divisions by geographic proximity. There is one notable exception, that being the placement of Dallas in the NFC East when there are numerous other teams further east than Dallas.

Each team in the NFL plays the teams in their division twice. They also play each team from a pre-determined division within their conference once each (the divisions rotate playing against each other). They also play each team from a pre-determined division in the other conference once a year. These determinations were set in 2002 and are not set to change any time soon. To fill out the 16-game schedule, each team plays a 'corresponding' team in the two divisions within their own conference. Example: Philadelphia finished fourth in the NFC East in 2007. In 2008, they will play twice against each team in the NFC East. They will also play all four teams in the NFC West and all four teams in the AFC North. Their final two games will be against the fourth-place teams from the NFC South (Atlanta) and NFC North (Chicago). Essentially, each team in every division plays 88% of the same games...the locations may change, but the opponents are the same.

For the playoffs, the division champions, plus the two non-division champions with the best records after tie-breakers qualify. Each team is seeed by record, and the top two teams receive a bye into the second round. The first round games are hosted by the two division titlists with the worst records, even if the wild-card teams have better records.

The second-round games are hosted by the teams who received byes. The highest seed plays against the lowest seed remaining, while the second seed plays the other first-round winner. The championship games in each conference are hosted by the highest remaining seed. The winners advance to the Super Bowl.

Narla, good question. There are two conferences in the NFL. They are The American Football Conference and The National Football Conference. Within each conference are 4 divisions and each division comprises 4 teams. That is how the playoffs and the championship game get narrowed down to see who plays in the Super Bowl. For example, you see bmdad & I talking about it---he Is a Bears fan and I am a Packers fan. Both our teams are battling against each other in the NFC division as only one of us can go on. Of course, it will be the Packers but don't tell him that...LOL

Just curious, for those of you who's teams are no longer in the playoffs who you want to win each conference and who you want to win the Super Bowl? Well, besides Sara and Rick. I know they both think their teams are actually in the playoffs. I guess Rick finally realized he hasn't been dreaming and is now a Bears fan all the way. So Sara, let's say we know the Raiders are gonna take it all. Lets pretend here that there aren't and the teams that actually have a chance are the teams that are showing up in the fake brackets going around. Who do you want to see win?

As I'm sure most of you know I hope the Bears can go all the way. I hope they end up playing the Jets. I'd like for the Jets to get there just because they haven't been there in over 40 years. If the Bears don't make it believe it or not I hope the Packers can win it all. I almost always cheer for any team that is in the NFC North if they Bears don't have a shot. I think it will be the Patriots winning it all though. I sure hope I'm wrong. I'm sick of seeing them.

This may be of interest. When I was in my teens I was accused of being a warlock. I once gave my dad four horses to play in four races and they all came in. I just liked their names. There was no mysterious hokey-pokey going on.  A month earlier I picked the winner of the Grey Cup( a footbal finale here in Canada) before the season started. Again, I just liked the name of the quarterback. His name was Joe ,"Kapp," and he played for the Toronto. I had sent away for a ,"cap," gun from an ad in a comic book and I thought it was prophetic even though I wouldn't have known that word then. These were just wild guesses. There was no voodoo or occult involved. Yet, some of my relatives and the parents of some of my friends  thought I had an inner power that gave me the ability to predict the future. They almost drove me crazy looking for hints on races, bingos(what card to pick) etc. etc. etc. It didn't take long before they,(after losing some of their money), decided I was just a ,"flash in the pan." I might mention that I was about eight or nine at the time. Anyway ,we all have at sometime or another, made some lucky guesses where someone thought we were either a genius or in league with the devil. I also made a little cash giving hints and never, never gave any of it back even though a few of them demanded I do so.

I've always been a teaser also. I know there are times where I probably take it a bit too far. I guess I should be careful on here being that you never know how some will take it. I may know personally that it's all in honest fun but someone else may not know that. It's all in good fun and I expect it thrown right back at me.

I know my wife use to become agitated at first when I would mess around but now she has just learned how to give it right back. We now have fun with it all. My daughter will be 8 here in a couple months so I can relate to the age. Is it the age or is it more of the sex? Sounds like you made it up to her though. But beings how smart they actually are at that age maybe she was just playing you?!

Hopefully I haven't taken it too far on here because now that you mentioned the the slurpy and the toony I may end up broke!

I kinda got that you like to play with people especially the female side. Every now and then we all need a little comeuppance. My wife has a habit of standing me right side up every now and then. Ialso have the habit of teasing and it gets me in a lot of trouble. I had one of my grandaughters refuse to talk to me for almost two months because I said she looked like an elf.  She was eight at the time was into that, "Try on everybodies make up," syndrome. I must have apologized a hundred times and it took a visit to the Children's Museum along with a slurpy and a toony (Canadian for two dollar coin) before I could get a small hug and another two weeks before I could get a peck on the cheek. I still tease all of them but I pick my spots very carefully now.

You do have a good point about winning more than they lose. The Bears don't normally do that!

It's too hard to say anything nice about the Packers being that I'm a Bears fan. I do hope the Packers can beat Atlanta this weekend though. I'd love to see the Bears vs Packers in the NFC Championship Game. Wouldn't that be something considering the rival that there is between the two. But I don't think the Bears will beat them if it does happen. If they play like they can they can beat them but with the Bears you never know which team will show up. But if they Packers do win I will be cheering for them in the Super Bowl. I just like messing with IBK and all the other lovely ladies here! They all know I love em and just trying to keep it interesting here on the social side. ;-)

I didn't use too but you wild cougars kinda got me used to it during the After Dark Cafe Christmas Edition. I have to admit that I still wake up at night due to nightmares on occasion.

And you say I'm starting to like it rough? I like how you said in the past that you added boxing to your exercise routine with your trainer to help with P.A.W.S. But does everyone know that he's a good looking young Chilean? I think you're the one that likes it rough! I'm on to you Narla.
