Christmas Trees?

Okay - I wasnt going to actually ask this......but if we are concerned about wives igniting husbands genitals then this isnt that far off base.

I took the outside Christmas lights down and have the inside ones also put away. However, I fully stalled at the Christmas Tree. I did get the tinsel and ornaments off before I stopped. But last night as my wife and I were discussing my efforts I had an epiphany - why not leave the nice (artificial) tree with its many colored lights up? We even decided that it could be a tribute to Dr Martin Luther King, in addittion to overworked husbands. The many colored lights living in harmony on the symbol of eternal life - the evergreen tree. Does this make sense to anyone but me? It is seriously not meant to be derisive to Dr King at all.....So let me know what you folks think - - - I may be coming down with cabin fever. I dont do that well in winter. - - - - -   eagle - - - Maybe we can start a tradition?

LMAO. I think it's cabin fever but could be laziness too, ha jk. Ty for the laugh and i would love to see a christmas tree up in June. A christmas tree saluting overworked men is perfect, we have it tough, lol.

Ya no eagle the tree was the only thing I took down already I need my living room back! Since we are on the subjuect I know we once had a discussion about pet peeves but I forgot about this one. I HATE when people turn on the  outside lights after New Years! It drives me CRAZY I mean I can see not getting them down cause its freezing out but STILL turning them on kills me.

Although I didn't put a tree up this year, I say why not leave it up, and on valentines day, decorate it with hearts etc, then Easter...bunnies and eggs, 4th of July...flags etc etc.  One of my sisters, puts up her tree before Halloween and has it decorated with Halloween stuff, then takes that off and does the Christmas stuff.
So why not?
Remember, normalcy breeds mediocrity.

Okay, I guess I'm the odd man out here....I like to still see the lights...I'm all about at least the twelve days of Christmas and don't mind extending it into January some....after all, people put 'em UP WAY too early..they have 'em up the day after Thanksgiving or the first week of December, so I'm not sure why no one complains about that.  I think if you ARE gonna light 'em up for a month, two weeks before and two weeks after sounds perfect to me.....I think I come from another planet, so don't mind me....

The tree in the house would probably drive me nuts to be left up for a long time, but I have wanted to do it myself, or at least put up colored or white lights...I just think they're pretty and they add a nice ambiance to a room.  One COULD go buy one of those potted fake trees or tall plant (or even a real, tall plant) and string white lights through that, and leave it up all year long...I've seen 'em in coffee houses, so why not your house.

I think flmagi's suggestion is a great one and I'd like that myself...the trouble with MY fake Christmas tree is that it's HUGE and has just as huge a diameter...If you can spare the space, why NOT leave it up and decorate it accordingly for each season or holiday..sounds lovely...then you can take pics of it and put 'em here for us all to oogle over.

I agree with flmagi too...it wuold be fun, if it's not in the way, just keep it up all year round, change the decorations and enjoy.. you might be sick of it by christmas next year though..lol

dominosarah, what a great idea, that should scare away any rats, mice, bugs, intruders..lol

One thing that I have never been accussed of is "normalcy" - so have no worries about the mediocrity thing.....

I like the various suggestions - especially the decorating the tree for the different holidays ....MLK, Easter, July 4th, and all of them.

And Jacqui - I have a "thing" for palm trees.....I may just go to an artificial  palm tree with lights and decoration for fair weather and use the evergreen for the rest of the year.....I am really liking this. Plus it means that I am off the hook for taking the tree down 'till at least Jan 20 (MLK Day!)

Ok, how about, along with putting seasonal decorations on the tree, throughout the year you add special little things to the tree from special moments during the year....Pictures from kids birthdays, weddings, births, new friends you made, memorial cards if loved one passes, awards, parties, vacation memorabilia....get the idea? Then by Christmas, you'll have a gathering of the whole years special events.  It could be made into a new tradition on New years day, taking down the years memories, reminiscing and putting them into a Special box..ex. 2009 special events. Then you start over for the next year.
LOL  I'm liking this whole idea too!

Hey, don't feel bad. Our tree is still up and fully decorated and our Christmas village is still up. My wife loves Christmas and would extend it as long as possible.

Please refer to flamgis post about mediocrity and "normalcy" - - maybe we are related in spirit, and maybe in thought. Or procrastination defined?  Perhaps we arent even : normal. Thank God!!

My sister-in-law was having some difficulties health-wise a couple years ago and they left their tree up with white lights.  So, they took the ornaments off and decorated for each of the holidays accordingly for the whole year.  It was actually quite nice!

I love the Christmas tree so much.  With how sick I have been, I didn't put my decorations up until two days before Christmas and so mine are staying up until the end of this month!!!! LOL!!!!  Maybe I'll leave mine up for valentines too!  :)

For quite a few years, Mary & I and a bunch of friends would celebrate a form of Festivus, right before Xmas.....anyone familiar with this?....Seinfield Show..Festivus??..feats of strength??, airing of grievances????? I'll get to the tree part in a sec.....  Anyway, we collected all these very strange hats and everyone would have to wear these hats at the Festivus party...And Lays (sp), Hawaiian lays..and party horns, that we'd all blow every time someone would arrive. Lots of weird stuff and lots of drinking.  So all this stuff, would end up on the tree at the party, sparklers, lays, horns etc.   It ended up being the greatest tree ever.  Oh yeah, and everyone would have to drinks some shots, poured down thru a horn and they'd have to blow the horn right after. Kinda messy.
I know, we're strange.  No mediocrity around here.
Mary's ex-husband used to decorate Xmas tree with Beer cans (not while they were married) lol

This has been a great help to me.

But if we all collectively formed a self-help group our sponsor would have to have followed a 20 step plan.........
