Educate Yourself on What has happened to your brain

Hi all,

well, i just wanted to let anyone know that my gf is a biochemist (she has only recently started working and graduated with her bs in biochem) but since i was an opiate addict, she choose to  do her term paper on the mu receptor and opiates in brains and recovery/detox. It has helped me tremendously to educate about whats going on, that way you can understand all these 'recpies' they have on this forumn, this paper she wrote has over 25 cited scientific journals about opiate dependance and is a trustworthy document (for an undergrad). I asked and she has said to provide it to anyone who it can help, believe me, when you find out exactly (scientifically, and schematically) what has happened to your brain chemistry/pathways, it will give you MUCH more of a SURGE of mental toughness, i for one didn't realize what they do to ya! Good thing is it is all reversible and this document tells how it reverses and such, could answer a lot of questions that you guys are having. Remember, however, he was a undergrad in biochem, no expert, but did a heavy term paper who had to be read through and approved by a majorally acommplished biochemist so the information is entirely true with cites to back information from scientific journals. Good luck all, Since i cannot post attachments here (unless anyone knows how, its a word document), i guess personal message me or respond to this post with a way for me to get it to you. I can post it on rapidshare, a free file transfer protocol for the internet. Eductation about what your body is going through helps tremendously and gives hope that it WILL HEAL!!!!!!!!

Ooh vicki I like it!
Good idea, plus you can point people to your journal via a link. Like my little Ode to Pain :)

Send them the whole article with pictures and ask if there is a way they can post it for you in the Health Pages substance abuse forum and social forum. Just a thought.

Educating oneself on addiction is great and i am sure her paper is interesting.  The mental part of this addiction is the kicker for me........

Glad you are feeling better!!

I took a look at those health page ones and i think that they are not near as informative as the one she did, hers has lots of figures, pictures of brain MRI's, pictures of opiates knocking at the cell door, comparisons of how each different opiate effects the brain and which ones are worse and how the brains cells have to push out the agonist, etc. I really believe that you will like this paper, does anyone know how i can post this document in this forumn? Can i just copy and paste into a journal or something, it has lots of tables and figures and such though, formatting will remain? Also, it is not that long a paper with mostly figures so it wont' be too hard to read, and it will help you feel better
