Good post.  Except for the 1880's stuff.....lol.  had to throw that in, hun......lol.  So true what you said about hills......now we will never know.  I have learned a whole new and interesting side on prejudice.........I won't go into that, but.......

I don't know what to think anymore.  I believe McCain will prevail this.  What is said, and what is put on the ballot are a different story.  I am learning more and more each day about each candidate and what they propose, and I am not afraid anymore.  I believe Obama is blowing a lot of steam, and I don't know about taking from the rich and giving to the poor.......I know we need to get out of Iraq for economic reasons.......will take a long time , but either way, we will make it, whether it be McCain or Obama.

Its in the hands of you.........MY FELLOW AMERICANS.  THINK WISELY BEFORE YOU CHOOSE.  USE YOUR HEAD & NOT YOUR HEART.

NAUTY........

You have to remember that the democratic party was technically the republican party pre-1880's. Technically, it was the democratic-republican party vs. the federalists.

Later the party split and the dem's and repub's had essentially reversed policy to that of today's dem's and repub's (a modern day republican would have been considered an 1860's democrat by our standards, and vice versa. Keep in mind this is a vast simplification).

I don't like either of 'em.  the republicans have only one hope of winning; a miracle in Iraq. Which I doubt they'll get.

Obama is just mouthing typical "I have a dream" platitudes. Neither side has presented a plausible method of making serious changes in this country that will fix anything in the long run.

McCain...I've said time and again I won't have anything to do with the republican party until the make a clean, honest break from the evangelical right.

Big Business has it's grip so tightly around our governments nuts that I can't see any real change coming about..

Frankly, it's what I liked about Hillary. She took them on in a big way a while back...and yes, she did lose. But that wasn't ger fault, to many other corrupt and lily livered politicians were afraid of losing the extra cash from bribes, kickbacks and investments.

I had high hopes that she was gonig to use the presidency to take a second run at big business, with more success.

Ah well, now we'll never know.

Blech. I think I'll vote for myself. ;)

The hurricane expert who is watching the hurricane says it's time to GET OUT OF NEW ORLEANS NOW!!!!!!!!

""it's not natural" to live in a city that lies partially below sea level. I apologize for my remarks, they could have been phrased better. We had to build New Orleans where it is, and it is a great city that needs to be protected. The fact remains that New Orleans is highly vulnerable to storms like Gustav. Gustav is capable of bringing a storm surge to the city that will overwhelm the levees. Pre-Katrina wisdom suggested that the city needed 72 hours to evacuate. With the population about half of the pre-Katrina population, that lead time is about 60 hours. With Gustav likely to bring tropical storm force winds to the city by Monday afternoon, that means it's time to leave. I'm not an emergency manager, but I am a hurricane scientist. I understand the danger this storm poses better than most. The risk of staying in New Orleans is unacceptable. This is a huge and dangerous storm that has already killed a lot of people. The projected track and strength of Gustav is very close to that of Hurricane Betsy of 1965, the Category 3 hurricane that overwhelmed New Orleans' levees, and killed 76 people. It's time to get out of New Orleans." ~ JeffMasters
