My Dog just died =(

i just went outside half an hour ago or so and found one my dogs dead =(     He had been ill for a few days and was 10 yrs old so its not like it should've hit me so hard, I was expecting him to die, but man I cant stop crying. And whats even sadder, his brother KNOWS he's dead. this dog looks so pathetically sad! He wouldnt even LOOK at me when i kept calling his name, he just kept laying on the ground a few feet away from his dead brother and had the saddest eyes Ive ever seen on an animal =(.  I dont care what anybody says, some--if not all- animals can and do have an understanding of death. These two dogs have been together since birth, every minute of their lives for 10 years and I hope the surviving dog doesnt fall into some kind of canine depression. These were the puppies I got years ago when some sick person had thrown them in a TRASH CAN to die! my friend who is a garbage man, found them just in time. he heard yelping coming from a bag right before he was going to pull the lever for the crusher! So, these dogs certainly had a good 2nd chance at life and this dog lived a good, happy life- a life much longer than some sick person had intended him to have.

I sure am gonna miss him... I will post some pics of him in a little bit...

Speaking of fabulous pooches

That tis a bullmastif in your avatar pic, correct maria?

I had a bully, his name was Alex, was one of the most coolest dogs I have ever seen and owned. my ex gave him to me as a B-day present, best one I ever had !! he was a gorgeous big ole red bully, with a perfect disposition. but yet very tough looking and people tripped when they seen him!!stunning colors, of red, black, tan and brown. he was soooooo cool, but unfortunately cancer took him about 5 years ago.......

man, I feel sorry for you and his bro.........spent their whole lives together. from a certain death because of some diabolical lunatic, that threw em in the trash, to being rescued by the trash dude and having a great life with you and your family.

thats very honorable for you to take them in.

I am sorry about the loss of your dog.  It is never easy to lose one of our pets.  theeagle is referring to a journal written by Dr. Phil Zeltzman.  It is a really good article.  He is one of the vets on the forum........check it out.              sara

You have my complete sympathy, trouble.  There is an interesting Post some where here about whether pets mourn or not. This Veterinarian that wrote the piece feels that pets do mourn. Just as the pets owner mourns.  I had to have a rottweiler put down after 13 years of companionship - the dog was a Schutzund Class protection/guard dog. And literally saved me life a few times.  I guess that I am still not over it.......but it doesnt hurt as much today...

thanks everyone. Im doing better today now. The kids took it pretty well too. They unfortunately have already had quite a lot of pets die on them so they are learning what its like (they are 6 and 4 yrs old). Im glad we have the newer, next generation of pets here too so they still have pets to love on. We are going to keep 2 of the kittens instead of one, and we also have our "puppy" who is about a year and half old now who is the "baby" of the family, plus 2 other dogs (the brother of the one who died, and another old dog)

i am so sorry about your dog....i know your heart must be breaking.  i ve lost a few pet people too and it s devastating.  they become such a part of us.  i lost a dog in 2006 and there isn t a day go by i don t think of her....i had such a hard time getting over her death i went to a priest and told him this...he said all animals go to heaven....well it gives me hope that some day when our time comes we will rejoin...God bless you...maria

I am so SORRY to hear about your precious dog, being an avid dog lover boy do I know your pain.

Just before we moved to another state for my husbands job I lost 2 poodles I had for so many years I forgot how many, but they were the loves of my life.

We also had to give away a brother and sister Rotty's that we raised from pups to 2 years old.........so all in all I lost 4 dogs right together, and my heart was broken.

I think all that loss and many other things happening in my life, the move, etc. helped to fuel my need for the drugs, it just made my life better, OR SO I THOUGHT. What a lie that was I was believing.

Anyway praying for you and hope the other dog doesn't get into depression as I think animals have an amazing since of love.
