Of all the drugs, why did I choose the this one?

I really don't know how to word this question, but I'll do my best... Ok I am 26 years old now.  When I was 18 & 19 I didn't even know what pills were. The first drugs I was ever introduced to were your common street drugs - speed, x, coke, and even meth which I did with a needle. Yeah I partied and had my fun but I just stopped and it wasn't hard and these are some of the most addictive drugs out there, are they not?  For some reason "uppers" got me high, but never got a real "hold" on me you know? But then when I was 21 I got introduced to all kinds of pills.  Valium, soma, xanax, lorcets, norcos, oxycotin etc... and I just loved them.  Particualarly the lorcets and oxys. Those turned out to be the dugs that "got" me and soon took over my life. I guess what I want to ask is what is it the makes a person want certain drugs over the other?  I mean the earlier drugs were pretty strong and very addictive and I've seen people loose it all over them but not me. Is there really such a thing as "upper" people and "downer" people.  I've heard that some people just don't take to uppers like they do downers and vice versa. Is this true? Does anyone have any kind of insight for me?

"Uppers" have addictive properties but the "downer" drugs you described, opioids, act directly on the brains reward system and quickly form an addiction (when you are not on them for pain).

Most people will stop if they have side effects from drugs but not everyone does.

I have no idea what started you on drugs, but i do know that you had better hurry and get off of them, before it is to late, i have seen many people in the line of my work go their graves, because of being an addict, i know it will not be easy as i have seen people try and try, and a lot have made it.  luck  jo

opiates are the devil...but hey an addict is an addict...back in my younger ays as they say I was a practicing chemist....I did almost every drug out there except herion...never got addicted to any of them....but in my mid forties went to a pain specialist for a real bad back..and he started me on percs then aded morphine sulfate...got adicted real fast.....so opiates are horrible the grip and the downward spiral they put yu on is head spinning....then the w/d's are no fun either...but the pain and misery as so well worth it

There are different parts of the brain that are affected different ways by different drugs. Some of these areas affect energy, well being, nausea, drowsiness, etc. People are affected differently by different drugs relevant to brain chemistry. This explains why a Lortab will make some people drowsy and sick to their stomach while others get an energy boost. That's also why most people may take several drugs but seem to always gravitate towards one..their drug of choice. Our brain chemistry is set when we're born, and addiction is awakened when the brain gets that one drug that illicits the ultimate response. It also explains why they are so hard for us to put down. The brain sees that drug on the same importance level as oxygen, water, and food. It it a truly powerful disease.

yes it is true.

the human body actually produces endorphins that are as strong as morphine naturally, which helps keep the mind/body rolling along at a comfortable and balanced pace. when one takes opiates and opioids, they have a very comfortable numbing effect on most people. time drips by much faster, and you have a nice warm fuzzy glow inside. the problem is over time, the brain receptors increase and change, and the body no longer makes the endorphins naturally because the drugs have filled the void. which explains why we top out and require more pills to get the same high as we did when we started. then over time, it just keeps growing into a larger addiction and a total mess.

not everyone gets along well with opiates and opioids, some cant stand them and they make them itch and feel crappy. much like a ADHD kid, that takes adderal, which has the opposite effect on them, where as most are flying like a hellfire missle when they take adderal(speed-amphetamine) people are wired different. but overall most are very vulerable tp falling pray to pain pills. others like uppers, and fall prey to coke, meth and speed habits. I never had fallen to coke or crystal meth. tried them, and did not mibnd them, but they just were not my DOC as they say.
