One of our Congressmen . . .

wants to have a law passed here in Utah that would make it so that businesses could or should stop having to say "Happy Holidays" and be able to put in their storefront windows, "Merry Christmas" or whatever they believe in.  He wants to stop all the politically correct stuff.

Now, I don't know about you, but it just ticks me off!  He's not in my district, but I would never vote for him.  I'm sorry, but we already have freedom of speech in this country and to make such a law is crazy!  I understand the sentiment that we seem to have become so politically correct that we often forget that we have a right to say and practice our own cultural preferences.  But, a law!!!???  UGH!!!!

What do you think?

My opinion exactly!

Magi:
Is there a law stopping this?  I know there is not a law here in Utah that prevents a business from putting what they want in their store front.  I agree if there are laws that prevent free speech - then by all means we need to change that because it goes against our constitution!

Thanks for your opinions!  It just really ticked me off!!!

With everything going on in the world now .......it pisses me off that a congressman is spending time on things like this.  A matter like this should be dealt with after we put out all the fires. grrrrrrrrrrrr

There was a time when businesses could put up signs that said "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" etc., but someone put a stop to it....because it was to religion specific.  Happy Holidays was to be the blanket coverage.  This congressmen, it seems, would like to bring back freedom of speech, since a lot of businesses (especially government) have been chastised and forced to remove any religion specific greetings, and go with the generalized saying. It goes along with not being able to say a prayer in schools or having "In God We Trust" on our money, etc.
It's a shame that it has to go to the point of being a law, but if that's what it takes to protect freedom of speech, especially for something like this...so be it.
