sigh...you kids....if it weren't for him a lot of early rock and roll (and perhaps today's) would be completely different..he invented the solid body electric guitar (the Les Paul model one of the most used today) and multi track recording..I don't have time to go into it all but wikipedia has a good write up on him..an example is a song I posted above..recorded in the 50's with 24 tracks..sounds like multi guitars playing and several vocalists when it was just he and Mary Ford...but this method of recording eventually became the standard..however, by comparison I believe the Beatles recorded Sgt Pepper's on 16 tracks..
One of the fathers of Rock and roll
Ol' Jim

When Les Paul was a young boy he worked at my Aunts Barbecue Stand...I of course wasn't born at that time but I did inherit pictures.
We have a street named after him in WI...
He had a great life..
Les Paul was much more than a talented person with music....... He was truly a visionary!! RIP to those good sounds......... we are all lucky that we could share in them..............
check out the stuff on youtube with Mary Ford...so far ahead of it's time..beautiful and I can't get "how high the moon" out of my head. On one version he gives a brief explanation of what he had done.
Jim
without les paul...rock music wouldn't be what it is today...he was such aa pioneer and intovater.....
When I heard about this, it brougy momentary overwhelming sadness.
But... he did live to ninety four.
