Terrified

I don't know if this is really a question or if I just need the support. I have been on Lortab now for about 3 years. I'm fully aware that I've been abusing my medication for quite some time. Last summer I stopped taking them and went through 5 days of withdrawls just to go through massive depression and anxiety. I am so afraid to go through that again. I ended up in the emergency room to be evaluated. I have an amazing relationship with my doctor and I've decided to see her first as  I start this journey. My biggest issue is I have 2 children to take care of and no support except my husband,  who understandably is a little sick of being so supportive. I just want my life back. I have no desire to go anywhere or do anything, I'm just not me anymore. From what I've read the anxiety and depression that I can expect to go through actually has a name. PAWS I wish I would have known last year that what was happening was a result of the lortab withdrawl. I'm moving and I'm terrified to take time to go through withdrawls, like I have no time for this. How do I do this? I am so afraid. Does any know what I mean?

Hi!  Big congrats on wanting to stop!  It's a big step, and it's very worth what it takes to get through it.  Talk with your doctor.  Maybe she could help you with the depression if you think that triggers you.  You already know that you aren't going to feel well, but there are things you can do to help it.  Look on the health pages at the Thomas Recipe.  It has some good ideas for detox!

Good luck!

Hi and welcome,

I know EXACTLY what you mean.  The first time I decided to stop taking pills I made it 5 days too.  I had no idea what to expect and it was tough.  It also made me VERY afraid to ever try it again.  That little 5 day trip drove my addiction even deeper as I knew I could NEVER repeat that again.

Well......fast forward one year later and I came to the conclusion that I was stopping no matter the consequences.  I had had ENOUGH.  So I began my journey again and by day 2, I was a real mess because my dosage was quite large by then.

Thankfully I found this site and many helped me through it.  The good news is that you are involving your doctor firstly and secondly you have found us.  Your doctor will have the medical advice and we will have the practical advice because we have suffered through this.

You need to take a few breaths and calm down, it IS very doable.  Get informed.  It's a scary process when you undertake this and wonder if it is killing you.  Learn EVERYTHING that will happen before it does so that you are prepared.

You aren't going to feel well for a few days but you CAN do this.  If you have any specific questions, fire away and many will help you out.

Congrats on your decision to get your life back,
Keep posting!!!!!!
