Thanks Trouble & Allesandra.................My leg looks much worse than it feels. Its' quite a crowd pleas er.........all the gasps when people see it. The bruising is really impressive. LMAO I fell once and had a huge bruise on my ars. I'm not shy. I showed everyone. lol
I am going to take both your advise to hold that little tuffy down, but might give it a week , I'm a little beat up right now. I also cut my hand yesterday. I figure by the time we get this house all done and moved in, I will be in a body cast. lol
Thanks for checking on me.
My advice to you is a lot like Trouble's. I have two labs - a yellow and black (both males), and the yellow was pure alpha with me. I took him to the vet and was really admonished by the veterinarian who couldn't believe I was letting this dog lead me. So she called in her tech and for over an hour this tech took my dog to the ground (120 pounds) over and over and over again while I sobbed. It looked so cruel, but it worked. Now when he gets out of hand, I have to take him to the ground and hold him there until he let's go and gives in, it's horrible, but a must. Also, while you have the dog down, make sure to secure the paws and mouth as they will do anything to get out of that position at first. Good luck to ya!
Mary how is your leg doing today? any better yet I hope/?
GoingtoMarket & Nauty........LMAO This is not the first time I've been a human chew toy. I must have blacked out when it first happened. My mother said I was screaming, don't remember. It was about 5 minutes of the worst pain I've ever been in. I had my hand clenched over the bites and couldn't let go to see how bad it was. I'm sure if it was the outer thigh it wouldn't have hurt so bad. lol
Nauty .....send Hopsing over it's hurting much worse today ! LOL
Omg!! Magi.......you are so cracking me up !!!!.........As, for Mary.......Dang It !! Now I know how guys feel when you mention Vasectomy......Me knees are a buckling just thinking about that......OUCH !!
Take care of dem bites or I might have to send Hopsing over there to lick your wounds..........:-)))~~
Take care, hun.
(((hugs)))) ~~~~~Nauty.......
Mary , I am sorry the dogs mistook you for a chew toy. It hurts just thinking about it. This was not a very nice thing for them to do on Christmas. I hope you heal up quickly.
Trouble......Thanks, Did you see the picture of my thigh in my profile. It was taken last night. Boy it looks a lot worse today. Not the puncture's they look o.k. it's the bruising. So very colorful. lol I haven't had a tetanus shot in years. My health insurance, like yours, consists of crossing my fingers.
Mary Im glad you wont need rabies shots, LOL. Have you had a tetanus shot recently though? you may need one if you are not up to date on that. I got bit by a neighbors cat years ago and needed a tetanus shot + antibiotics. The cat also had to be watched closely because it had NOT had its rabies shots (but it was a housecat who escaped 10 minutes earlier and found its way into their own dog pen. Thats how i got bit- i saw the dogs attacking the cat, hopped the fence and grabbed the cat to save it and the stupid cat bit the shitt out of my thumb LOL) anyhow, it got infected bad, worse than when my own dog bit me which I already told you about. Yes, Ive been bit a time or two in case you hadnt noticed, LOL. When we had my pet squirrel, she too, took several bites out of me as well. Im a walking puncture wound lol
Hey Hop , Those steaks yesterday were to die for. lol Glad you had a great Christmas. Hugs, Mary
Yes dogs have all shots. Thank Goodness !
OMG that is crazy. Mary do keep an eye on the bites. I am figuring they have had all there shots and all. This sort of reminds me of the movie A Christmas Story lol. Wish you a quick recovery Mary. That dinner really sounds good. We had brisket and ribs yesterday. Cooked all day yesterday and just hung out and watched the kids play. We had a good Christmas also. Take care girl.
PS definitely try the pinning her down on her back as 'therapy'. Google dog training or something like that Im sure you'll find great tips on how to establish yourelf as the ALPHA DOG of the house.! You should also use a firm tone of voice when doing this. Good luck and keep us posted!
Mary I would think Prednisone can alter doggy moods. I know its a common side effect in humans as well. Ive used Pred quite a lot over the years. ANd if your dog already has a predisposition to aggression, the prednisone may exacerbate it even worse..
Thanks Trouble...............The problem dog is my Schnauzer and she is the one I've had the longest (since she was a pup). It's interesting that you say to roll her on her back. She never lets me do that. I will give it a try.
Even this morning she was aggressive toward Zippy. I gave her hell and at first she wasn't going to back down, but then did.
Another question .....Can Prednisone make dogs aggressive ??????
how old are her little yappers? it may be hard to change the 'order of the pack' if they are long established but Im sure it can be done with alot of hard work! I know one way you are supposed to do it is rolll the dog over on his back so his underside is belly up and lean down on them this way to show you are alpha. Ever watch those wolf shows on tv? the submissive ones are always rolling on their backs while the alpha is snarling over the top of him. Same thing applies here. Tell Mary to get her snarler in working order and hope she dont lose a chunk of her face to match her leg, rofl. SOrry i know its not funny....Ive owned alot of pets in my life and still havent mastered the art of dog/animal training. ALot depends on the dog breed and their personality. My shepherd mixes were always the smartest and most obedient. Except the one I have now. The "pup" who is about 9 mo old now or so. OMG he is a stubborn, free spirit. He listens to me great inside the house but once outside he totally ignores my commands, drags me all over the place on the leash (and might i remind you we currently have a ton of ICE everywhere and its extremely treacherous walking even on your own power, carefully calculating each and every step- now picture a wild strong dog yanking me full power on a leash in these conditions, LOL) ANyhow maybe Mary needs to enroll them in a dog training class. Are the new dogs moved in too yet? she'd better get a handle on them before adding more dogs to the mix!
Mary will probably be a regular on the Dog Forum now.
Any tips on how Mary can establish herself as leader of her little pack, would be greatly appreciated. She has let her dogs take control, especially the little Schnauzer, Sadie (the one that bit her). A very dominant, alpha female..............the dog, not Mary.
This is almost comical, since I have the Pit Bull & the Rotty, who are sweet as can be and wouldn't bit any of us, but people fear them and Mary has these little, tiny yapper dogs, who can be vicious. All of us have been nipped at by Mary's puppies.
Oiy!!!!!
oh man, that bites (pun intended). I was hoping when i read the title that it just meant the dogs got into your turkey or something. Keep an eye on those bites as Im sure you know puncture wounds can get easily infected. btw i too have been bitten badly by my own dogs before, lol. Many years ago- same situation both dogs of mine got into a fight and the terrier chewed half my leg calf off. it ook forever to heal and was sore for MONTHS. When they get down into the muscle, it feels like a sore, bruise pain for months. Feel better soon as you can Mary, and Merry Christmas!
And they look so sweet in their Christmas picture. lol Vicious..
Yep they had ME for dessert ! Yum Yum inner thigh ! Couldn't have been the outer thigh, that surely wouldn't be hurting as bad. OUCHEY !!!!!!!
