i KNOW exactly how you feel.  i have multiple issues with my "gyno" problems, but since my doctor retired a few years back, it's been hell.   i found another gyno that was new, but after less than a year she was gone )won't tell me why) from the practice i moved to.   they i was transferred to the NP who wanted me to get off my premarin and was kinda snotty about it.  i got my prescription for it, finally, but never got any help for my issue about having repeated "bad" pap smears after almost 20 years of good ones.   I caught hpv in my 20's and had problems back then but none in the last 20 years, so i'm not happy about that.  then she wanted me to stop my premarin and i was pretty much crazy about that.   my mom and sister have/had problems without hormones.  i have taken birth control pills continusly since then and my past gyno understood that my body had been used to estrogen for so many years.  when i started menopause, he knew that my body just needed it more that other people.   that's how my body is and i'm not giving it up.  the birth control i took for all those years was high dose, not low dose.   i just need someone to go to that would help me keep the premarin so i don't get weird.   i think nurse practioners are probably a good thing  -  my mom was a nurse, director of nursing at a local hospital for most of my life - but the ones i have talked to seem to have a "suck it up" attitude, which my mom would've hated...

Ask your doctor about Cymbalta. I'm betting it would really help you.  Can't hurt to try it.

Naughty,   Be careful of takeing the Clondine if you already have low blood presure. I don't think it'll help that much anyway with hot flashes etc. I was put on hormone replacement therapy for 2 years, but I lied to the doctor about smoking. I got to nervous about takeing them and finally stopped. My doctor said they sometimes use anti-depressants now instead of hormones. I don't know if it'll help hot flashes.
Hot flashes are contributing to global warming and may be the cause of it.
Good luck with it, it's a *****.

I know exactly how you feel.  I am going through an awful time myself right now.  The hot flashes are coming every half hour.  I'm so irritable, I can't stand myself. Every thing seems to **** me off.  I hate being this way. Took 1/4 of a Clonodine last night and still woke up 4 times with the sweats. I guess I'll try 1/2 tonight. I know I can't get hormones because I smoke. My family tip toes around me because I'm a time bomb ready to go off.  I'm going to ask the doctor for some Cymbalta and see if it takes away some of the irritability.   Sorry not much help, just can relate.  Hugs,  Very Cranky Girl.

And when that time comes for your wife dont ask her on a bad day if she has forgotten to take her pills as ducking and covering WILL NOT SAVE YOU!!!!!  My family learned the hard way!!!!!!

Nauty..........i feel for you.  It really blows.  Hope you get some relief from the doc.  I have been on HRT for 22 yrs and am on a low dose of premarin.  I actually forget to take it most of the time as my symptons have quieted down.  Oh and i smoke too but i wanted to rip the doctor from one end to the other so he decided he better keep me on.  That was a few years ago.  Im knocking on wood that it stays in check!!!!  good luck girl.                  sara

LOL enough kidding this is scary I guess I can try to learn from this so I'll know what to do when its time for her to experience what it sounds like are very close to withdrawal synptoms,i.e. night sweats irritated etc.. Thanks for the info and hope you feel better glad I am way down here as I don't want ya to read this and get hormonal and throw something at me I think I have had enough of that happen already in my time. LOL Take care and hope you get to calm your nerves a bit so you can feel better... Mike

I can tell if I havent taken my Premarim for a few days,  not only by the night sweats (there should be a different name for that,  cuz  it is a whole lot worse than a bit of sweat beads,) more like sweating hot as hell miserable...I would try to put my makeup on and I would sweat it off before I was done  and  have to start over again!   But the absolute worst part for me,  is how very nervous I would get,   which also caused me to be very short tempered....after the surgery, the doc was playing with the dosage to get it right,  so that is when I had the worst time.  I have used HRT for a long time now,  finally a year ago  I went onto a lower dose,  and its working very well.    There are pros  and cons  and it seems to change yearly, so it is a very personal decision.   All I know is that I would do a commercial for that drug, I can't imagine not taking it, since my ovaries were removed I wasn't making any estrogen, nada.   My  family would probably grind it up and put it in my food if I stopped taking it,   or just have me committed!!!    Perhaps the OTC drugs will help you,  I know there are a lot out there,  they just didnt work for me.  I hope you can take the safest route and still get some relief,  it truly is miserable!!

Ino it made no sense......she was a butthead.  Now someone told me that I cant take hormones because my Mother had breast cancer......ugh.....I don't think I want to take hormones, but if this keeps up.....I would eat out of the litter box if they told me it would work.......maybe I'll try some yoga.......I just dont' know, but I'm telling ya....I'm really starting to think that I could hurt someone.  I know its not mental, because like I said, it starts 1 week before aunt flo and then ends 2-3 day after her arrival.  After that I am fine, my wonderful self....lol.  I'm just gonna see the doc. and if he blows me, you might be seeing me on CNN......lol.

i dont understand that because you cans till have a period and be menopuasal.  and there are things you can do for that.  i smoke and was prescribed hormones..just couldnt take them.  maybe try a gynocologist...there are options.  wheni took the hormones it stopped me feeling crazy and the sweats...which are a b!tch.  good luck, i know thats miserable.

Well this is what I think may be going on......she told me my only options would be a low dose birth control, but because I smoke, she can't prescribe.  She said there is no reason to bother checking for anything unless my periods have stopped??huh?  I feel like she was just blowing me, but then again, maybe their isn't anything else they can do for raging anger and night sweats.  I get hot flashes maybe 1 a month if that, she also told me to try the OTC estroven stuff and calcium.  The clonidine is only when I get the sweats and thats only about 5 days a month.  So, I wonder if there is anything they really can do?.....ahhhhhh  I was taking Ativan but stopped taking it because it was actually making it worse.  I got the opposite affect from it......that stuff made my wired, thats not what I needed.  I will not take xanax Ever!  valium maybe, but I don't think that will work.  Man am I screwed, but I will see the DR. anyway.

Frustrated.....Maybe I need to start exercising again ......get it out on the old treadmill God I am so frustrated.  I have broken things, throwing things, kicking things, yelling at my dogs.......that kills me.  and in two weeks it is gone and I am back to me.  Maybe I am mental?  I just don't know anymore.  Boy do I need to see a doc.

GTMI  I have almost given up all the diet coke....Yea. I feel so much better for it.

Thanks guys for all your responses.  I feel better already.  I feel like I am going insane literally....its scary.....phewwww

Like Cathy I also had a complete hysterectomy when I was 30, due to medical issues.  The docs can check your estrogen level via a simple blood test, which is how the doc determined the amount of estrogen prescription.   There are so many "opinions" regarding HRT so I won't even go down that path!.  Replacement treatment has been a god send for me,  but that is a very personal decision that each person needs to make for herself after reading all the info available.

Good luck to you,  I think you will be releived after talking to your doc.

nauty, i had a hysterectomy at 23. since that time i have had my hormones checke every year to year and half.  about 8 years ago my levels dropped dramatically.  they tried my on hormones replacement.  i could not tolerate the hormone because theey caused me to have migraines everyday.  so i suffer all the symptoms of low hormones...i know how you feel.
