omg how do i get rid of these hornets???

anyone know how to get rid of a HUGE hornet's nest??? omg they started this nest early in the summer and it grows larger every day. They have built it up to at least 10x the size it was in June. Up until now they have minded their own business and not one person has been stung. The nest is low to the ground on the side of a tree..only about 5-6 feet up in the air (just perfect height for a person to STICK THEIR HEAD THROUGH THE NEST if you didnt see it lol). Anyways this morning i took my dog out at 5 a.m for his walk and potty..i had to turn on the porch light since it was so dark out still......big mistake.....when doggie and I came back from our walk, there were a bunch of the hornets swarming right around the porch light (also very low and right next to the damn door!!!!) I was horrified because the other door was locked so the only way back into the house was to go in the door right next to the bees! I still cant believe that the porch light woke them up and made them come out!! Anyways, i made it through safely but doggie got attacked by them and he got stung up. Poor thing was freaking out, running and jumping like crazy (my coffee went flying out of my h and from him jerking th leash so violently ). At least i found them on the floor after they stung him and i stomped them to death after a few cuss words lol (god theres one in here still i just saw buzzing around, omg omg )This is WAR now....how do you get rid of a nest like that?? a can of Raid would be a JOKE unless i brought in a tanker truck full of it .  gotta go hunt down hornet and kill it now...damn... just what i need this morning, my son is starting 1st grade today!! I have to go pack his lunch and get him up in an hour and now im chasing a hornet around with a book (cant find a flyswatter!! and a can of aersol hair spray)

well the safest bet is what flmagi said, just do it at night, especially if they are inside the tree. but if.................unless you want have fun and get some gas or carb cleaner and spray down then torch it !!!  ha,ha,ha,ha!! just get the wasp killer, its  the safest way.

how about some more bee stories???

once when I was a little button buck, I was out in a huge field shooting my BB gun. I apparently was standing on the mother of all ground bee hives. I was just standing there looking around and kinda sensed something was on my legs..... I looked down, and I am not kidding, my entire left leg and some of the right, was covered with HUNDREDS of yellow jackets. needless to say I freaked out and started running like the dickens. the bees then started stinging the **** out of me!  If I would have been alergic, it would have been certain death, given I was far from any houses or people. they stung me probablly atleast 10 times before they all got off.

Go buy a few cans of Wasp & Hornet killer. They have a spray range of 18-20 feet. Wait til night after dark. If the nest is so close to your doorway, stand at the door and spray the heII out of the nest, shut the door quick if they start flying. Once they settle down, do it again. By morning they should be dead or gone. Just make sure you saturate the nest really good.  I've had to deal with Hornets/wasps a lot. Bees are a whole nother story. They can't be killed as easily as Hornets, and it's a different way to get rid of them. I'm allergic to bee stings so I try not to deal with bees.
Good luck.

scaredmom.......lmao thats a good story too! How did they not get stung though??  this nest has lots of holes/doors in it that they go in and out of ! I dont see how vacuuming them would work in this case (although I'd love to try it, we have have bagless vacuum with a clear cannister that you can see through, so I'd be able to see them buzzing around in there (honestly I fear there are so many in that nest, that the cannister wouldnt be big enough to hold them all, lol)... last night we tried one of those killer fog things designed for them....it sprayed directly into their nest...but guess what.....they are angrily buzzing around still this morning!!!! My luck the company  screwed up and accidentally put bee FERTILIZER and STEROIDS in it so they get stronger and breed more, lol. Im  starting to think.....12 gauge sawed off shotgun here as next option (hah, i dont even have one lol)

ok, trouble, here is my hornet story...Somehow we got a nest of hornets under our eaves and into the outside wall. We tried everything from sprays to bombs, nothing worked. one evening, my husband and oldest son took my vaccum outside and sucked the nest dry, they were all in my vaccum, for 2 days afterwards, the vaccum sit on the porch with hornets flying around inside.  while the guys were vaccumming hornets I was laughing so hard, I snuck around the house and took their picture, the flash from the camera scared the begebees out of them. I still have the pictures of those too and the vaccum hose in the air. lol

needless the say, the vaccum went into the trash, it was a good one too. lmfao!

whitie....you mean if you bust their nest down, they will not still be hanging around in the morning? THey arent like waiting for you at the back door with Uzi's or something?? I would be afraid they'd be Pissssed OFFFF about that and zipping around madly (the nest is very close to the house and door ). I have to be able to walk my son out that door tomorrow morning without getting attacked by 300million hornets lol...  You think i can really get rid of them without resorting to Napalm? LOL... btw i took a pic of that montrosity of a nest today, will try to post it later if i have time. Im awfully tired though Ive been up since a lil before 5 this morning and only had about 3 hours sleep before i got up (leg cramps and back pain kept me up). speaking of pains...i have to go fill out the 50 or so forms the school sent home today (1st day of school), ugh i hate doing that crapp lol.

ok........ so now I gotta tell a bee story, and the solution is along the lines of what flmagi suggested.

I had a flood light two stories up in the back of a walk out ranch, at night when the light would be turned on, about a hundred bees would be viciously flying around...though damn, those basturds are in the house somewhere !!!  after scoping out the eaves and the attic, plus out side by the light....there were no bees to be found??? wtf??? I could not figure it out. well, one time at night I seen that the flood light was shinning into one of the maple trees and low and behold IT was shinning on a monsterous basketball sized bee hive! turns out the bees were p oed about the bright light !!

given its outside you can actually save your money and do what I did, wait till dark like flmagi said, and I just took my watering hose(cause it was 20 feet up in the air)and sprayed the crapout of em it came crashing down to the ground and was ruined. they never came back and its a nice free/green way to get rid of them  :]

Nauty Im sorry that I offended you. You know I love you! I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this issue, huh? lol    and btw, I DO realize the importance of bees in general, I know they pollenate everything so veggies and plants grow etc, and make honey of course.   And I let these bees go about their business all summer long without interfering. But when they cross that line and become agressive like that, I have to do something. I cant let my kids get stung by a nest of bees (again!!) Do you remember me posting last summer when my oldest son and dog got stung by that entire nest of yellow jackets?? that was sooo scary!! I had to beat the bees off my son with my bare hands, ignoring them stinging me so that i could save my son from the worst of it if possible. He was screaming and crying and got sooooo many stings. Thank god he was not allergic to them, but he still had tons of sore welts all over.   Anyhow, my motto for bees/wasps/hornets is..... IF YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS, I'll MIND MY OWN TOO.....but Cross that line and youre dead"   LOL... sorry Nauty..Lov ya girl!

Come on you guys!!  There has to be a more humane way to rid of the nest????  Can of hairspray???  That sounds awfully cruel, I no they are bee's, but even bees need a little honey..........Which none of you deserve to be stirrin in your tea when you are sick, right?...lol........Yes, I no wasps don't make honey so, don't even try......:-))~~~I got stung by three of those little suckers ......In the kneecap, mind you........Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!. But, I still can't even kill..........even a bee..........I hide and let someone else do it, and pretend it never happened...........

Hairspray.............dang it!!!

Nauty...............No luv, from Nauty to the bee killers......

You have me laughing so hard.....I dont have hornets but, I have had bees make a hive in a tree in front yard..I was so worried about grands getting stung I called pest control. They had to come twice. My sister and BIL had a hornets nest this summer, they tried several different things....nothing worked...they called pest control...hornets are all gone....but now they have red wasp (that attack) on their deck, and they cant see the nest...so I guess they will call pest control again...I think you better call pest control because I would hate for you to use up all your hairspray and cleaners..LOL But really if the dang thing is that big I would be scared to even go outside...Best of luck....

update:  well i was HELD HOSTAGE for 2 hours by the hornets thsi morning LOL  after i typed up that post, i ended up finding more in here and they were DIVE BOMBING me!!!! AND my hair spray ran out, i had to switch to Lemon Pledge furniture spray, lmao! that didnt work too well at all, just made them mad and smell good.  it was crazy I tell ya! I was slinking around the house and wishing i had a holster to hold my spray cans in LOL. I finally finally got them all killed here in the house (god i HOPE so anyhow, please god dont let there be more in here hiding!) But i noticed when i turned on the kitchen light to pack my son's lunch there were more of them pressed up against the window trying to get into the light!!! thankfully the window was shut and has a screen but still it was creepy having hornets clinging to the window staring in at  me!!! and also there were more clung on to the door frame around the porch light still. Apparently when i turned the porch light off, they were stuck in the dark and couldnt see where to go so they stayed put til sunrise.  UGH i HATE hornets!!!  Im contemplating dousing the nest with gasoline tonight and then torching it LOL   (no i wont really do that, I dont need to be in the ICU Burn unit for the next 10 months or so, thanks)

The spray stuff in the can for Wasp & Hornet killer actually works great, but you need to do it after dark when they're all in the nest asleep. Very dangerous to try it during the day. The canned stuff sprays real far, so you don't have to get to close.
Kill those SOB's, I hate them, and they don't like me to much either.

You are chasing hornets around with a fly swatter and a can of hair spray??? I need to see video of this...LOL

Call in a professional and let them disarm the nest for you. It is too dangerous for you to be trying to do it yourself.

My mom stumbled on a nest a few years back and ended up in ICU for days. She got stung 60 times.

Please be careful hun, it really is dangerous.
