14 yr old friend of son died of OD

Hi everyone hope you are all well! We just found out that a good friend of my 13 year old sons died of OD from Oxycotin that him and another friend got out of his mothers med cabinet. So sad, I just can't believe it. My son is so upset and all the kids are talking about it at school, I'm just not sure exactly how to get across that ya know see if ya do any type of drugs thats where it will get ya, I would like to use Colbys death as an example of what drugs can do to a person. anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks

You know when they say "hit bottom" well that was mine I felt like such a bad mom and I still feel that way because my relationship with my son change I think I see him with shame and He looks at my like he can't forget him self for doing that it is the most horrible feeling seen you kid just slip out of your hands and you just can't do anything to help the situation

Don't beat yourself up about that anymore, that being your determining factor in stopping makes you a caring, loving mom.I can remember people I knew whos kids would find their pills and take them and they would punish the kid not because they were concerned about their child but because their stash had been depleted. They would just find a new hiding spot. That was perhaps your wake up call and you showed the love and concern you have for your son as well as the kids who may have bought them meant more. You did a great thing.Peace.

Thats such a tragedy.I have 3 kids 23,21 and 18 and they have buried more of their friends in there short years then I have. The majority of them drug and alcohol related.I've been really open and honest with my kids about my addiction, since they are adults. If theres one mistake I ever made that I want them to learn from it's that one.I remember when my daughter was in school she said there were kids selling pills for their parents.A sixth grader at my sons school had got caught with weed in his backpack and it came out that his stepdad had given it to him to sell. It's a scary world out there, makes me want to put my kids in a bubble sometimes. My prayers are with your son and the family of his friend.Peace.

I caught my daughter not long ago, late last year stealling pills out of my nightstand,my truck and anywhere else I kept them. It's like she new all my hiding spots. Chichi is right on with the lock and key. This is so so sad, poor kid had no idea what he was taking. My daughter would wait until everybody was in bed asleep and sneak my keys and go through my truck at night. I finally started putting my keys under the mattress at night and setting the alarm on my truck and anything else I could do. Just shows you what lengths kids will go through to get the stuff. Please everybody be careful. Wish there was more we could do to make parents (that arent here) more aware. Some parents don't think twice about it.

that is so sad. Was your son real close, or just knew this kid? my condolences.
its scary that this stuff is so prevelant in schools nowadays. back in my time the worst most kids did was alcohol and pot. It wasnt until i was out of schoool that i saw people using LSD and stuff like that (which btw i never did, i was horrified of trying something that would make me hallucinate). Anyways, its scary all the stuff you hear about that high school kids do now...RX pills, cough syrups, meth, ecstasy etc

That's horrible and I have a 17 year old son so it just scares me to death to think about things like this. We keep all medication under lock and key for this reason. The kids know more about what you have in your medicine cabinet than you do.
My son lost one of his dearest friends in a car wreck (no alcohol or drugs) the first of the school year. This child had gone from kindergarten - 11th grade with him. It was devastating to him and the others. All I can say is you hope they learn a powerful lesson from such a horrible experience.
Oxycotin is everywhere and in all the schools. The children have no idea how powerful it can be and they mix it with alcohol just to make things worse. All you can do is your best as a parent and pray hard every day for angels to watch over them.
Hugs
