Help!  I am on day 5 of a detox from lortabs. I was taking 3 to 5 a day. I was able to taper off. But last night I started with the horrible leg aches. Again today they ate HORRIBLE. I have tried Alene Motrin and tylenol. Is this normal or could something  else be going on?  I don't have the option of getting bezos.  Don't really want to do that any way.  I'm taking Melissa a natural combination of suppllements for anxiety and sleep

I don't know hon...I sure wish I had the answer! Having that "rescue" medicine when the pain becomes excruciating has become enough for me....if you can take the pills responsibly and you genuinely find your pain alleviated by them, I think pain management is OK.

but...if you're going through this cycle where you're running out early every time....your body doesn't need that abuse, you know? it's probably making the pain worse...and narcotics definitely can and DO do that.

it's an entirely personal decision....for me, coming off of the daily pain meds and using it as a rescue med was ideal...BUT now when I take them, they kick my butt...if I take 5mg I get nauseous, woozy, headachy, and dizzy...it stinks...but it sure can help the pain. when i was taking them regularly i never felt like that. so there's that to consider...once your tolerance goes down, they can really make you feel quite nasty. however...if you ARE taking them regularly, when you DON'T take them, you feel quite nasty..and who wants to be locked into that cycle?

do you think you could just them just on an as-needed for the WORST pain basis? like if you had 2 days of pain a week could you honestly...and i mean HONESTLY...take them for 2 days, then not take them if your pain levels were more manageable (less than a 6 on the 1-10 scale)? if so...maybe rescue meds are for you. if not..well..that should be your answer.

best of luck with your decision..it's such a tough one...no one wants to lose quality of life either to pills or to lack of pain relief!

To take or not to take that is the million dollar question we all ask!  Those of us that have legit pain that doesn't respond to anything else. Thoughts?

Hey there...I can relate to your story very well. I was a pain management patient...I never abused the pills, or took them to get high, and almost never ran out early (once in a blue moon I would be a day short and I would call my doctor to let him know that I was going to be short and he was always OK with that)...but I got tired of the cycle of dependence.

SO...i broke the cycle. went through a detox that was uncomfortable, but bearable...and spent many months without pain medicine (except for a brief interlude where I had my wisdom teeth out). Now that I'm pregnant, my doc has me back on small doses of Norco as needed, but I'm happy not to be stuck in the cycle again.

Only you can decide if that's the right approach for you...but I find the pills much more effective now if I only take them rarely, and I also find the side effects to be worse, so I'm not likely to ever want to be back on daily doses.

If your pain is so unbearable that Ibuprofen won't manage it..try some alternative treatments. physical therapy, massage, etc....if you MUST use pain medicine, and can use it safely and responsibly - that's what it's there for. BUT...you may find that your pain is more manageable without.

I think that it is not a good idea taking antibiotics without a doctor checking that there is  an infection that need being addressed by them .... much more if you have a compromised immune system.... after taking antibiotics our defenses are lower than normal and it is not what you need now..... If you have cardiac issues, you should ask a doctor here to help you with detox... checking the potassium levels is important also

Be safe, ok ? :)

Thank you all so very much.  Fever broke and hylands and matron helping the cramping leg pain. Found out my grandson is sick so probably aviral thing. Legs still hurt this am but not as bad. It's at times like uesterdayt that make me want to go right back on the lortabs. I have been thru so much pain with cardiac issues and neck problems that caused me to take the lortab to begin with. I was on fentynl patches for 3 years and finally my diva agreed to a very slow wean. I didn't have an "addiction" problem with them I just hated the stigma attached.  So the PM dr put me on 5 lortab a day. I normally do pretty good with making them last month to month but the last two months have been extremely stressful and I ended up a week short. Dr won't refill until thursday but after coming here I realize I may Ganesh issue with them. So now I'm trying to decide to completely discontinue using them or try to function within the scope the dr prescribes them in.

Yes, I changed my mind about the fluids when I saw the immune system problems...So, you're not going to get it checked until tomorrow maybe?  Stay close here...keep posting!

Something I never thought of until recently was a heating pad!  If you don't have one, have your husband get one for you. It works wonders on the leg aches so use along with the other suggestions! (right after you get back from the ER, of course...)

Feel better!

Thank you all for your advice. Neither leg is swollen red etc. I went ahead and started some antibiotics at the urging of my hiubby. He's out getting my hylands fluids Tylenol etc. If I'm not better in the AM I will be forced to call the doctor. The reason I wondered it this was WD was because I did pretty good Saturday night and pretty well had a decent day yesterday. Then last night the leg cramps hit and nothing helped

These r all normal symptoms of withdrawls but if u have a weakened/comprised immune system I wouldnt take any chances I would go to the ER or urgent care to be safe

Hi-  It's alright. Don't worry yourself here!  The fever is pretty common.  So is the leg symptom. If your leg is not swollen, extremely hot or extremely cold, it's most likely RLS. You need vitamins and minerals and a banana and some apple juice. A hot soak helps a lot!!

Is it one leg more than another that's painful ?

Keep forcing those fluids!  If you get too concerned, just go to urgent care. This doesn't need to be as horrible as it can get sometimes and I really believe that getting a doctor involved is the best way to go!

OOPS  I just read that you have a very compromised immune system;I missed that! All bets are off; go to urgent care to be safe.

Let us know!

Ok another piece of this crazy withdrawal puzzle. I am running a temp of 101.  Normal to do this during WD?  I have a very compromised immune system anyway.  Now I'm scared. Possible for me to be sick too?

First of all congrats! I remember tapering off a similar dosage and it was pure hell at the time, but looking back,it was a walk in the park compaired to what I am facing now. Good for you for quitting now while your dosages are still low. Force yourself to walk, and allow the feelings to run through you. In my opinion, you will feel so full of life and MUCH better in a matter of days if you keep clean. Make sure you don't turn back... it gets so much worse.

Hyland's makes two.  Leg cramps.  And Restful Legs.  They are different.  If you are aching, get the one for cramps.  That is the one I was talking about.

: )  Sending you a hug!

Totally normal. ***** but normal. Should only last for a night or two at the most. If you can push through the sleeplessness you'll be alright. Also tapering myself, someone gave me some nueronrin for the legs but haven't tried it yet, just got them today. The earlier post about hylands I've seen a lot. But I'm nowhere near a walmart.
