240 mg Oxy addiction

My husband has been addicted to Vicodin for many years, switching to Oxycontin a few years ago. He has been trying to cut back for years but is still taking 240 mg a day minimum. What is the likelyhood that he can actually cut back slowly. He doesn't have any will power that I can see.

Thats alot of oxy tapering off would probably need some help from a doctor and you holding his pills .Remeber this does not just affect him it affects you too.The first thing he has to do is not snort them and that's right there is a big step for an addict .Will he be willing togive you his pills?

Not snorting them is not the proper way to deal with it.............  But it is one of the signs that you are in trouble with them.......  The only reason that exists to snort them is to negate the time release effect and get the entire dose into your system all at once...... No other reason to have straws and razor blades around....... And you are correct - - its not more economical or anything to snort them - the opposite is true.......  You should probaby do some serious reading about the oxy's on this forum and you also might want to investigate the Al Anon group meetings..... and good luck with everything....

no there is no other reason to snort your oxy's but to get high...Im sorry.. I hope he gets the urge to quit soon, thats a really high dose

He denied snorting them forever but I kept finding straws and razors everywhere. He said the other day he won't snort anymore, but I can't believe him.He tried to tell me it makes them last longer but I am guessing the opposite is true. Is there any reason to snort them other than to get high? He is a family man that doesn't party and just got caught up in this addiction but, why would he snort them?

The likelyhood is extremely low.... is he swallowing them or is he crushing them to snort?
