61 days off methadone 33 days off OxyContin and Valium

I think the methadone withdrawals are better but the Valium and OxyContin withdrawals are horrible! Can't sleep or eat and the anxiety is crazy. Need advice for sleep, I have tried meditation, journaling, reading NA material, hypnosis cd, sleepy time tea, 150 mg trazadone 2 benedryl and a melatonin,  calling others in recovery. I am on day 5 of no sleep. My record is 9 daysin a row. About days 5 or 6 my sight starts to act strange the carpet starts waving like water. Any suggestions for sleep please?

My neurologist had me on Valium for my MS spasms 5 mg on and off for 14 years. Then when the methadone was freaking me out I went to about 60 mg or more a day with the oxycontins.

Hi Lily I am so happy for you that you are feeling better. This is such an answer to prayer.
Congratulations on your clean time you are doing awesome.
I don't think you took the oxys or the valium long enough to still be causing problems. Didn't you only use them for a few weeks ?
I believe it is still the methadone detox. You are healing.
Keep moving forward.

Have you tried epsom salt baths before bed?
Taking a magnesium/ zinc/ calcium supplement helps some people.
Alteril or sleep by nature made are  natural otc sleep aids.
Benadryl can cause restlessness.
Avoiding caffeine may also help.

I am very proud of you. Great job on attending meetings.
Much love, Debbie

First whoo hoo on your clean time.  Your coming off some of the toughest, hardest drugs to detox from.  Methadone is a beast, has a long half life.  Oxy and Valium is another big one.  I can't speak for methadone.  Didn't even want to go there from hearing other people's experiences.

My doc is oxy.  I jumped off of 360mgs a day.  Cold turkey.  I tried to do it on my own, but couldn't. So when I got serious I went to a rehab. My first attempt wasn't so hot.  I wasn't healed from a knee replacement.  So I was released from treatment and told when I was fully healed on the total knee replacement to come back when I wasn't in such pain.  I did.

I would get so sick from detoxing off of oxy and ambien I wouldn't even hold water down.  I there up for 8 days once at my home.  Even with a family doctor supervision. And she gave me meds to ease the detox. Ha. So I checked into rehab where I could be away from my family and under medical supervision to stop.  Rehab put me on a very Very fast taper using suboxone and some other meds for blood pressure, etc etc.  it made it a million times more doable. Plus, I didn't have to worry about my family scared because I was sick, or daily demands.  I just concentrated on my recovery.

But I remember the detoxes at home.  Anxiety levels were so bad I thought I was loosing my mind and my heart felt like it was on fire and gonna jump out of my chest.  Not to mention my body temp would go freezing to burning and back and forth.  There was no way I couldn't have gotten clean by myself.  I'd ALWAYS RELAPSE.

Rehab saved my life.

It was so hard for me to accept that I was gonna be sick and I was sick.  The best advice that really stuck with me is when someone told me Tanya, your sick either way.  If your using and abusing meds your sick in addiction.  When you quit your gonna be sick in withdrawls.  Either way your sick.  I don't know why that stuck and helped me.  At least I was sober and sick.  At least I was trying something different.

And nobody has ever stayed in withdrawals forever. Nobody....

What are you doing for your long term care recovery?  Do you go to meetings?  Meetings really helped me.  I would be at my wits end wanting to pull out my hair in frustration and overwhelming feelings and I'd hit up a meeting and bam I'd feel amazing after an hour of na or aa.  It was amazing.

What your doing is the hardest thing you'll ever do in your life time.  It's also the best thing you'll ever do in your lifetime.

Remember to reach out for support like your doing now when you need too.
We're all here for one reason, to get better.
