Help with codeine addiction

I am new to this forum, but have been reading it for awhile now.  It is very nice to hear people talk about problems you thought you were alone in.  I too am from Canada and have been taking too much codiene for about two years now.  i have noticed lately though, that the pharmacies seem to  finally be getting smart and connecting to each other so that you can't just go from place to place and get however much you want.  they only allow you to get 50 pills per month and they are getting much better at keeping track. Sooooooo, I've decided that now is as good a time as any to stop this stupid game.  they are making me sick and tired and i feel crappy all the time.

i have an appointment with my doctor tomrrow, so was wondering, besides valium, is there anything you can take for a few days to make the process easier?  i have tried cold turkey twice in the past month and failed both times and think that unless i get someting to get me over the first few days, i'm only going to fail again.  I have done a cold turkey withdrawal off of valium before and you would think that next to that, this would be easy, but it's not.  i think i would be fine taking valium again for say, one week, but if there was something else that worked in the same way, that would be even better.  Thanks for your help everyone and please take care.  this life is too short for us to be treating our bodies in this manner!!

sorry, i didn't really give much info...

ever since i stopped taking valium, i've been taking tylenol 1's, which have 8mg of codiene in them.  i take usually about 20 - 30 per day, sometimes as much as 40 or more a day.  i've tried to taper and i don't stick with it EVER.  i don't think i've stuck with a taper for even one day.  i've cut back for a day here and there, but even with cutting back it's still a stupid amount.  i just booked next Thursday and Friday off work and hope that four days will get me through the worst of it.

one more thing. be honest with your doctor. it might suck but it's the best thing you can do for yourself in the long run. peace   sway

depending on how much you've been using, i would try to take the valium for maybe just 3-5 days and only when you really need them. they helped me. the 'thomas recipe' is at the bottom right of this page and i would swear by it. wish i found about it sooner. please let me know how you make out. you can do it!     sway
