right on ... Staying off the Pills is the REAL Hard part.  I have quit maybe half a dozen times or so, but always relapse.  And always relapse when I'm 100% Normal again.  The Relapse is the part I'm going to be Focusing on the very most this time around.  This is my first real attempt to quit Tramadol, after such an extensive use that is.  I don't really count taking 2 pills for 1 year and going CT back in 1999 counts.  And I've had hydrocodone and methadone addictions since then.  I probably should not mention Methadone much though, I only took it for 1 month.  40mg was the most I ever took.  So I have experience with Methadone, but it is a small amount of experience.  It was Aug 2004, I spent that month on Methadone.  I'll never forget that month.  Mid Sep I was off the hydrocodone for good too.  Weeks later when I relapsed, it was on Tramadol.  In the last four years I've taken hydrocodone on a small hand full of occasions.  I am far from addicted to those, at this time.  Just Tramadol.  But soon I won't be its slave anymore.  I'll be clean and free soon.

hydrocodone w/d *****, but it passes.  The first 5-7 days really *****, but then it gets better.  I took upwards of 150 mgs per day, stopped c/t.  You feel physically better after a few days.  It's the psychological side that is the hard part.  You have a habit of taking them, expecting the feeling that you get.  You will crave them for awhile, but after a month or two it's all good.  But staying off them is the hardest part.  I keep relapsing!!  But don't be afraid to go c/t.  If you need support, seek counseling or Narcotics Anonymous.  It helps.  I have a chronic back issue, so I do take them for pain.  I am much more careful with them now.  It takes will power, but if I can do it anyone can.

yes everyone is different.  Men and women differ as well in how their bodies react to different meds.  I find it interesting that women usually get the hydros and men the oxys.  For chronic pain hydros worked great for me, then I had to have a complete hysterectomy and with all that female stuff gone, hydros didn't work as well anymore and they switched me to oxycodone.  something about lack of female hormones, endocrine systm, metalbolism etc.  My humble personal opinion is that a taper can definitely ease that first week of w/d's.  I've said it many times before here that cold turkey and shocking the body can be very painful and lessen the chances of quitting.  Opioid w/d's can make you feel like you're dying but no one ever has.

Agreed.  Hydrocodone withdrawals where not that bad for me, but most others I think would disagree, I'm finding out.  I guess CT is not always the best option for everyone.  I've met people who had to get on Methadone to get off hydrocodone.  So I guess everyone is really really differant is all.

Of course it is hard enough, frank  but you can do it. It is also hard  for me and i have always considered myself strong willed, so what ?  we, addicts, leave this behind when we start taking pills just  to forget whatever we don't want to feel  every single day (    the  pain, the feeling, .....  whatever the thing in our life )... I'm 11 days clean of hydros and it's not as easy as it sounds quitting them...Staying clean after the first months/weeks is not easy for any addict whatever the doc  (  my opinion.. ) it's not  just a bad flu and it's gone. Apart from the physical wds, mental wds are terrible for all of us even with the  easy to quit hydros, and it takes time , a long time.... . Try to read old posts and learn from other people's experiences, have a look at the aminos and/or thomas recipe ( health pages ) cause they are a good help for the first days  usw and be confident you can do it, but it's not easy and do not feel bad if it's hard for you. Good luck !

There is always help here.  It's a good site.  Check out that Thomas Recipe, there could be some good vitamins and amino acids and stuff it recommends that can help.

Use the Valium during the day and the Ambien for sleeping at night.  Just for maybe 3-5 days use those.  Only when you really need them.  But if you can talk a doctor into giving you those, you would have it made.

Yea, I know it does kinda suck, but after 72 hours it's all down hill.

Get 20 Valium and 20 Ambien.  Man you would have it made!  With those you can do it almost pain free.

Eat 'em up!  Flush 'em!  Give 'em away!  Then go CT.  You can do it!  It's not that bad.  I once ate 40 Norcos in 14 hours.  Those are 10mg Hydrocodones.  So take it from me, you can do it.  It's not going to be that bad for you.

You wanna know suck, try coming off that Fen patch or Methadone or Heroin or Tramadols after a history of opiate problems, or SUB or BUP.  There are things out there so much worse than hydrocodone.  You don;t know how easy you got it!

And when you start to hurt from withdrawals, it only last fifteen minutes.  Then it passes.  Sure it comes back after a half hour-an hour, but again it will only last 15 minutes and the bad feelings pass.  They come and go at 15 minute chunks with hydrocodones.  That's why it's so easy to quit!

If all you have is a couple years past with opiates.  Even at 20 10mg Norcos per day, I still say jump off, go Cold Turkey!  Just 2 years with hydrocodone and alchohol, that's it?  Nothing stronger like heroin or methadone or oxycotins at any time?  You should be fine to just go CT.  It ***** sure, but only for 72 hours!

Frank- Do you think you can take 1 or 2 less pills a day. I did a gradual taper and it really helped me.

I was at 20-25 per day and quit CT.  Did that three times.  And worked while I did it.  But that's just me.
