Restless Limbs and Tapering HELP!!

Hey there. Still truckin' along on my taper plan, almost through week 1. Every day seems sooooo long. What I'm wondering for any taper'ers out there is what period of tapering was the most challenging for you? I am getting mild wd's currently. I'm worried about getting past 3 a day. Three I can handle, after that I start continuously obsessing over the pills. The wd's set in pretty hardcore, I would say the worst part of it is, insomnia, restlessness, the restless limbs that quite literally get a mind of their own!! If I bought RLS meds over counter would they work for arms too? Hands? It's a horrible experience feeling so compelled to move them. It makes no sense. I've never had a problem with this before, just with detoxing.

On my fourth day and thought I'd lose it last night. Made it through. Yeah! I'm going in tomorrow to talk to my pcp, about clonidine,  which was recommended by a friend with the same kind of issues.  Eight years on ativan and oxies.  I'm going to make it, and you will too. :)

This is great to hear!!! I tapered off in a week and now 3 days clean. I bought the hylands today and we will see how that works. It is a great feeling, isnt it! Not to have to worry about counting pills anymore!!!!!!!

dont give in now!! You'll just have to repeat this all over again "the next time"  Try to fix a nice hot cup of green tea or something but do not give in now!

I really wish there was someone here to talk to about now. I am TEMPTED. SO damn tempted to go seeking. I hurt, it's been about 11 hours since my last vicodin. I went for a walk, I cried, it's starting to sink in.....

Omg. I did that. It sounds like you were a "high functioning addict" much like myself, I worked for the newspaper, did commercial photography for banks,etc.., biked, socialized, cause I felt great. I felt invisible. I'd take a pill or crush a vic up before a buisness negotiation, and walk in there feeling like a million bucks, confidence and all. And it worked. I'd walk out successful with more money in the pocket. I will -greatly- miss the false confidence. The sneaking out bit, to go get high with my friends when their scripts loaded. I don't know why I didn't feel guilty, I do now. I am scared about the wd's I cave every time too. Even with the Thomas recipe. It's still terrible. How long did you have to wait before you took your first suboxone dose? Some people say they don't know why I have to wait so long (28 hours) I'm scared I won't be able to make it...even if I don't I'm still seeing her tomorrow, it's a miracle I got in, she's almost at 100 client max. So I need to be brave...

I have a masters degree, own a business, married, a mother and seem normal to others. I was addicted to opiates for many years. I got on the Methodone program and it changed my life. No more sneaking out when everyone was sleeping; no more cruising the 'hood looking for stuff.  Just a once as week stop which included counseling. 10 years later I detoxed down over 6 months. I couldn't get off the last 10 mg. I took low dose suboxone after reading comments from users.  It has been a miracle for me.  Started at 8mg, then 6mg, then 4mg, I plan on 2mg next week and hopefully that is it.  Go to a suboxone uswer web site and read how it has helped others.  Plus, no clinics.  Just a doctor office appointment 2 times a month. I just can't do withdrawal. I cave every time. It was the answer for me. Hope this helps, LaLa

Yea, I'm getting more and more resistant to the idea honestly. If I have a hard time with wd's from this, I may never get off suboxone. Not something I want for the rest of my life. I want to be happy and content on my own, not by some chemical dependency. IF I decide to, I will only do it for a minimal period. Still a lot to worry about..today is a big day for me...

Oh, I know where you are coming from.  I have been to rehab, let's see, probably 10 or more times, and it NEVER worked!  This time, I did it on my own, and I'm getting some aftercare, which is essential to staying clean.  You can stop all you want, but until you STAY stopped your life won't get better, right?  The way to stay stopped is with some recovery care and support.

Personally, I would not do suboxone.  You will get some other opinions, and to some, it's a lifesaver.  I guess it depends on where you are in your life and addiction.  I just don't want to take something addictive to get off something addictive, if that makes sense???  Sub is VERY hard to stop, according to everyone I have talked to and members on here.  I would try to get through it with some help from a doctor with something like clonidine, a BP med that is not habit forming.  It works well, and you won't get addicted to it.  It essentially takes away all the WDs or at least makes them bearable.  Give it some thought!

Ok. I am coming off vicodin 10/325. I was taking up to 8 a day. Two at a time, I'd always end up "short" and have to barter my way to get more. Bad, I know. But I'm done with that show. Uhm..this is my seventh time trying to quit it. All six times I failed. The longest I've ever gone is 5 days, at that point the wd's were just too much to handle. And each time, it gets -harder- and harder quicker! Like, I have the same problem with my dosing. A few hours before my next dose, my body aches, my heart pounds, I get very anxious, etc. My doctor and substance abuse councilor have both highly recommended (given my fail rate, that I go on suboxone, at least short term.) My goal is to be on it as little as I need. I guess I need that time to put my wds on hold to process the addiction so I figure out what it is I do need. What void the drugs were filling. So, I been reading on here, the three week period is optimum, after that people get mad wds. I know I'm rambling just a lot of emotions going on. I'm just thankful I'm past the excuses, and grinning and bearing it. I may just choose to taper off completely and not even touch suboxone. All depends on how this apt goes on Friday. But how can I think clearly if I'm going in there 28 hours with nothing? I feel like it may impair my judgment and my body will end up choosing for me. Wd's overpower me badly. I hate this crap, I wish I hadn't taken it. Thanks for listening.

I have been tapering down for 2.5 weeks now. started at 12 Lortab 10/500 a day  4 at a time
now I am taking 1.25 pills 3 times a day. I feel w/d symptons a couple hours before my next dose. So I am thinking about going to 4 times a day and slow it down a little it took three years to get here so I will give it 4 or 5 weeks to get well  I chose the taper to try and make the jump at the end of the taper easier and hope to have a better chance at winning. So less misery but for a longer time. I'm sure it's not for eveyone. But I just thought I would share. Some days are better than others But the more active I am the better the day goes. I dont work or have kids so my days are long. As the fog of being stoned every day has been lifted I realize what a waste I was becoming. I have a long way to go but can see the light at the end.
Take all that you can read and try and make the best decision for yourself. This forum is the key to my sucsess so far.

Hey.  Just a thought.....if you are having those symptoms at 3 a day, then have you thought about just going ahead and jumping off now?  Getting it over with??  Might be something to consider.  No need in dragging it out, right?  I'm not sure what you are tapering though.  Maybe I missed it.  Some stuff has to be tapered, so what you are using will make a difference in stopping or not.  Just something to consider! : )

The hylands stuff really helps.  So does Mag/Cal/Zinc supplement from wal mart.  It will calm your legs and arms a lot.  Apple juice and gatorade help with hydration and potassium.  If your legs cramp, get hylands leg cramps along with the restful legs formula.  I got mine at wal mart, but they should have them at lots of places.

I'm not much on "natural stuff'.  DUH...I'm a drug addict!!! : )  BUT....I tried some of it, and it really did work.  I have been reformed! LOL  Seriously, try it.  You have nothing to lose!!!

Best of luck!

It is SO much like the tribal tango. Trust me I know. Blah, I know it will still suck gonna check out walmart and see what they got. So what is the hardest point of tapering for you? As in at what point (in daily dosage) do you find it most difficult? 3 a day,2 a day, 1?

I am also tapering and have tapered in the past. I find that Hylands restful leg works well and potassium. You can by it at walgreens near the sleep aids. Good luck

Hi,

all the stuff we recommd here to help with RLS are just a help, meaning that you will still have it but yeah, all together they alleviate the symptons and it's almost bearable... at least, i noticed a big difference from the first time when i didn't knew about the suplemments, etc ...., the second time ( and last :) was much better. So look at this as a help to make it bearable.... i also put an ice gel in my arms and legs when the tribal dancing was too much for me. good luck :)
