Hi all ! A question for you . I am not asking for medical advice but I would like to know if any of you started an AD before you stopped opiates and if it helped or aggitated your recovery ? Thanks all ! Jimmy

Hi Jimmy........

Have you discussed this with your doctor?  They have some really good AD meds out there.

Thinking of you~

Hey Jimmy, I took Efexor 3 weeks before withdrawing and best decision ever for me. I never cried once or was sad or depressed while withdrawing. I took 37.5mg for 2 weeks the had dose upped to 75mg daily. IM still on Efexor now and 9 weeks clean today and will stay on it just to be safe. My dose is quite low and just enough to balance my brain to normal. I would do it all over again the same way if I had to.

There are so many different ones that hit different areas of the brain. You can have one that only hits the Serotonin or others that just hit the Norepinephrine and adrenaline gland like Wellbutrin. You can get many that hit them all. I never been on one until I had about 10 Months in. It was OK for awhile, but I am stubborn and wanted to continue all natural..BUT now with all my Crisis the last couple of months I have stated the one up again. It has not 100% flat lined my emotions, but it has calmed me down at bit mentally which I need right now..After all of this is said and done I will most likely taper off of it again..Go and do some research on all the different ones and what part of the brain they hit. Then talk to your DR..BUT I did wait almost a year before I did this..It took me 7-9 months to go real emotional or mental..Then I was just fine with out it..Until now with all my Deaths that I am and have been dealing with one right after another I will continue for awhile. It will help you so when sh*t does hit the fan you will have a back up so you do not run to drugs or booze..I wish you the best and YES do some research on all of this.
Bless

I am 120 days today and really wonder if I should have started one before I quit. Sorry I can't answer your question but I am interested in everyone's answers!

Hey there - I have tried a few AD over the years but more recently started a new one about 30 days prior to quitting opiates. My personal experience is that it was a huge asset. I think the key though is finding the right AD and the right dose for you.,,again, I have tried a few different with no luck. For me, getting off the vicodin and the right AD has made a WORLD of difference.  I am not numb at all, I feel amazing. Oh, and I am 54 days clean.  Best of luck to you!

Hey Jimmy,  i did go on an AD after opiates and it did help, BUT i didn't like the way it made me feel so i came off fairly quickly.  I was off opiates for about 60-90 days then went on it.  I wanted to feel again and the AD interfered, i felt flat, i had no emotion and decided it wasn't the med for me.  I wish you the best.
