Suboxone Saga Continues

Hi! This is a crazy situation I am in, but any feedback would be great. I am 16 yr opiate addict and have been on Suboxone for 2 yrs. I have never acheived sobriety before (until now) I discovered this miracle drug! I am so so grateful for it, I tell you. Ok, so my question is: I am on 4 mgs a day and I am  in a patient assistance recovery program that helps me financially with the meds. Well, the meds come to my treatment center late sometimes and it's crazy because my body feels pretty bad even one day without it. Now of course you would ask: "havent you called the treatment center to correct this problem?" Answer: yes, I have, many times. Its like an endless battle. So, every month, I have to go 1, 2, or even 3 days without my suboxone. Its dangerous because the cravings start setting in.

I have asked my Dr to increase the dose by 2 mgs ( so i would have extra when this happens) , but he wants to keep me on the 4mgs, so that route is out. This doctor is an elderly doctor and prescribes suboxone to a few people, but thats not his main practice-so he is not as familiar with it. I have tried to explain that I go into withdrawal when I can't get my meds here ontime.
I have tried to split up a few tablets so that when the end of the month comes, I will have a little extra to get me thru those few days.

Its so ridiculous. Any feedback on this? What would you do in this situation. Yes, it is wacky. But thats me, always in some stupid situation.

But I can say- sobriety is a wonderful gift. It works if you work it.

Yes, it does work if you work it. I am in a 12 step program and thank God I am. I have been in an intensive 2 year outpatient program, Drug Court, and 5 meetings a week, have a homegroup, sponsor, etc. I wasn't "running out" of my meds, the center did not have the meds ready when it was time refill them. But anyway, I guess tapering off would be a great way to resolve this. I agree, being drugfree is what its all about and living life on life's terms. I guess its all in God's time, not mine. But, I gotta start somewhere. Thanks for listening-take care

Hi-

thanks for your posts, actually, yes I go to AA 5 nights a week, have a sponsor and work the 12 steps, in fact back on the 4th step right now again. I am very involved in my recovery and help others too. I don't want any addict behavios to come back because I have been through a lot and certainly have changed for the better. Life is so much better these days. Yes, sounds like good advice, start tapering down and then I won't have that problem of dealing with the med company. I have no control of when the meds come, like I said. I dont go to the pharmacy to get my meds, which is why I have been having these problems. Yes, I may switch to a more knowledgeable doctor. Thanks for your advice. Glad I posted this- duh- why didn't i think of that- ha ha

This too shall pass.

thanks and take care

Reduce your daily dose to 2 or 3 mgs, but don't tell your doctor. You should start reduceing down anyway because you've been on it for a very long time and may experiance difficulty comeing off unless you taper down very slowly. I would suggest dropping to 3 mgs and stay at that for about 1 1/2 months then drop to 2 mgs.  You may feel alittle crappy until your body adjusts to the decrease in Sub.
Good luck and keep posting.

Maybe you should think about starting your taper off of sub rather then getting more. Not to offend but,,running out early, going into wds each month,,sounds just like any other opiade addiction. By the way "it works if ya work it" is a 12 step phrase that refers to working the program with an ultimate goal of being off ALL drugs. gl
