Any link between methadone treatment and retinal detatchment/other symptoms?

I was in treatment (methadone) for about a year after my Oxycontin use got out of control. Methadone worked for me, but since then I have serious trouble seeing out of my left eye and I have cavities that I never had at all prior to taking methadone. My husband has had to have cataracts removed from both eyes recently at 42 yrs. old and his lymphnodes seem to be swollen a lot. Could these symptoms be related to methadone? I have another friend who has lost a great deal of his eye function as well, and he also suspects methadone may be the cause. Any thoughts?

I agree with johnnykelley.

Retinal detachemnt just happens. It mostly happens in people who are nearsighted. If you have a lot of floaters in your eye or you have bright flashes of light go to an eye dr ASAP.

Good luck,
Melissa

Hi Tifhckny I am on Methadone @70mgs a day Liquid and have been on and off for 10 give or take yrs.I have never heard of antone suffering any eye problems as a result of methadone. The cavities may be a result of a sweet tooth, some people experience a carbohydratecravind and weight gain, but that weight gain may be a result of a better lifestyle and not as much running around.Methadone has been around since the second world war and has a lot of research done on it.I wouldnt blame it for any and all my problems. Why not go to a eye specialist about the eye problem. You can ask,and see if theres any correlation, who knows?
