Benefits of sobriety...what benefits you?

Being able to wake up with a clear mind. No longer walking in the self centered, unfeeling fog. Having my father call me every week to see how I'm doing. To be so proud of me fighting my addiction as he has not been able to conquer his own. Being able to reach out to family who I have missed for so long as they missed me as I continued to isolate. To want to help other people instead of always just helping myself. I have a long journey ahead of me but these benefits tame the aches and pain, the utter discomfort of active w/d. It gives me hope.

Everyone has said it all -- I agree with everything and the only thing I want to add is that I am grateful each and everyday for my sobriety!!!!

Very basic - I control my life, not my addiction. If I make a mistake, it's me. If I do something great, it's me. Plain and simple...and wonderful.

Im very early in as far as clean days, but I can already say, the fog is gone. Im looking forward to the future, which I havent done in a long time. I feel like i had handcuffs on and I couldnt do all the things i wanted, and now they are off. Again, I know its still early but im looking foward to what the future will bring.

Meeting new people at my meetings which lets me know every day that I'm not alone and I'm not the only "messed up in the head" person out here!  Waking up in the morning not having to worry about what I have in my purse and will it be enough!  It's been hard, but I'm learning who I really am now. Might not like it, but at least it will be real.

One of the most beautiful benefits of sobriety is that I am the only one who controls my day, good or bad, it's mine.  How the day will go does not depend on how many pills I have left. It is not at the mercy of my dealers availability, how much money I have or weather someones script came in. It is not controlled by fear of physical sickness or loss of functionality. No doctor can suddenly decide to cut me off because the DEA caught up with them or my urine wasn't dirty enough. I am in charge, and I am free!
