Methadone

3 years back..I went to a private methadone doctor.Anyway,I told her I had a heart condition that was very sensitive to many over the counter medication..especially ones that speed up the heart.Well.. the day I went to see her I had told her I had already taken my daily dose of oxy.She highly suggested that I take a dose of methadone that very day.I told her I didnt need the dose, and if I could go home for the week-end and not take any oxy,but she was very very determined I take a dose that day. When I was diagnosed with this heart condition (extra systoles) the doctor told me it was not life threatening unless it sped up for a long period of time.Well, after calling the methadone doctor 5 times on the way to getting dosed and also telling her that I was not comfortable taking a dose on another narcotic..she reasured me everything was going to be okay.Well, guess what happened ? 5 hours later.. my heart started thudding and skipping beats like it does if I used to do anything to vigarous. It was NOT anxiety ! My heart thudd and skipped beats for a week until I couldn't handle it no more and took benzos to slow it down.I didn't take another dose of methdone for a whole week, and she again reasured me that my body just had to get used to methadone.6 weeks of no sleep later..I knew there was something awfully wrong. Now,my oxycontin does not work for me the way it used to.. and I am now addicted to the benzo to keep the heart rythum down.I once used to go everywhere and sleep like a baby, but now my life is in ruins .I dont go no where, and I am severely depressed.I would love to get help, but I am so scared of my heart not slowing down.Even when I was having the heart problems while I was on the E.E.G..It took the doctor 2 weeks to pick anything wrong, and that was years before being an addict. Can someone please suggest on what I can do since she has ruined my life completely ? Or..has this ever happened to anyone else ?I cant take it anymore........

HI I remember your post from a wile back...if im reading it right your no longer on methadone and now your oxy is no longer working....it could be you have built up a tolerance to the oxy witch has nothing to do with the methadone....as for the benzo's they are addictive and once your on them a wile it will happen...im with sway on this one you need to see a cardiologist and get to the bottom of this...I have herd of methadone making your heart thump but only wile you are on it....there is probably a heart med that can take care of your heart problem and then you can be tapered off the benzo's as for the oxy if you have been on it for an extended period of time it is not uncommon for it to loose its effectiveness it is probably time to get off it to....your probably going to have to be tapered off of it because of your heart condition C/Ting might put your body under to much stress with a bad heart and all...your situation is complex we are not doctors here....you DO need to see a specialist and get this worked out ....good luck  and God bless.....Gnarly

Hi Sway,Thanks for the quick reply. The Doctor told me that the right top chamber of my heart contracts. There for.. the blood builds up until the chamber opens again then the blood can start to flow through. The longer the chamber is shut..the bigger the thump I will feel when it opens again because of the blood build up when there is no where for it to flow.

I hope I have made some sense. It is hard to explain it myself.

i'm sorry you're having such a rough time. i have a growth on my mitral valve that gets my heart sputtering from time to time. knowing what it is eases my mind very much. what did the doc tell you was wrong when it took 2 weeks to figure it out? you should probably see a cardiologist. living in fear isn't really living with symptoms like yours. when you go to the doctor, tell them the whole truth. only then can they provide the best care. good luck. sway
