Did you totally stop the methadone?
You are staying in the hospital to detox?
Buprenophrine is protocol for many detox centers-
It us suboxone. Basically like methadone, used to detox off other opiates.
You need to find out if they will keep you on it when you leave there?
If so for how long will you take it?

My opinion....there basically detoxing u from methadone with suboxone and really, unless your using the subs for a VERY SHORT time, then i wouldnt do it. And i mean like a week or two. Im wondering why they just couldnt make u comfortable w/ other meds (klonopin, etc) until your finished the methadone w/d. I dont know about this one b/c methadone is usually used to get off heroin and subs seem to be used to get off heavy opiate addictions. I put methadone and suboxone are basically used for the same thing...so their going to treat u for an addiction to methadone w/suboxone???   Be very careful w/ the subs as they are very addictive b/c they allow u to be ok, really quickly. But its a false fix....be careful!

How do you feel? I am detoxing from methadone given for pain. All it did was cause me mental anguish. Since April I have been cutting it down horrible withdrawals. They started me on .1 clonidine 6xs a day but I couldn't seem to go any lower on the methadone so they are switching me to buprenorphine and some oxicodone then slowly tapering me off. I am scared don't know what to expect. Will the withdrawals be as bad as the methadone? Thank you for any feedback

Bup is a semi synthetic, mixed agonist-antagonist opioid receptor modulator.
It comes in names like Suboxone, Subutex & Zubsolv.

If you are at a treatment then they will wait until you are stabilized & receive medical clearance. Then they will be having you do multiple therapy sessions which includes both groups and individual counseling and various chemical dependency counselors, psychologist, psychiatrist , social workers and other professional. A lot of places have you work on the 12 Steps just like in AA/NA.

I sure do pray that you are in a good one..I have been on here long enough to read and learn more about these Subs and it has been proved that the less is better and for a short time. This is a drug too and you could get hooked on it. This is why most Sub clinics have you do all the meetings and most will have you do a urine test.

I was prescribed Methadone back in the later 90s after I was on the hydo/oxys. I just played the game to get this med because it has longer legs and did last a bit longer. Then I got real hooked and was snorting it with Adderral I got off the streets ( I do not have ADHD)..This was Bad and it was just like my crank days in the 70-80s..Then I would take a Benzo to come down..Back in 2012 of this month I went c/t off of all 3 but I did get the Dones down to 30-60mg. The treatment Dr would not take me because I was on too high of a dose for over 12 years and they did not know much about it..I had to go a few hours away to a Dr who wanted to prescribe Subs. Like alot about 3 to 4 of 8mg strips or more..I said NO WAY and did a taper in 4 days and that was not good. I only took 2 strips and cut it back and this through me into precipitated w/ds..SO I sure hope they keep a handle on this and please do not do what I did..lol
However, I do know a Sub Dr here in my town because I used to work the medical field and he likes to start low and see how it goes. Then he likes to only do this for a short time if you want off drugs. Be very careful because it is a BIG TIME Money making thing right now..It will help you to get off the other meds but you have to work a program too..This is so you can understand and learn all you can about addiction. I sure wish you the best & I am happy that you are in a controlled environment with Drs & Nurses around if I got this right..Take good care and learn all you can about Addiction in a more Scientific way too..Like Addiction being a Brain Disease. I wish you a wonderful, easy going Recovery and a Lifetime with a peaceful Journey.
Bless

Just a question...with all of the pain mgt meds out there, why would a dr use methadone as the pain mgt med? What are the reasons? I know b/c i couldnt take pain meds when i had hernia surgery, i was able to use the subs as pain mgt, but only b/c the others wouldnt work. What are reasons why a dr would prescribe this????

It was a stupid er dr who prescribed it. I have multiple sclerosis and instead of talking to my neurologist he did this to me. I didn't know at the time what it does to you as I never used drugs before. That's why I am in the medical ward for detox and not in a program. They don't want my MS to get out of control while detoxing. I had my last dose of methadone at lunch time today . It is now 9 pm. Ty for info support and feedback as I am afraid to do this alone

They said I don't qualify for the drug treatment program. They said my body is addicted and that I am not. Typical user. I wouldn't mind talking to people who have done this but they said I was strictly medical. My neurologist is very upset at the ER dr who did not follow her instructions. As long as they get me off this stuff I don't care about pain management . I can deal with pain just not the mental anguish caused by the methadone. Ty for your feedback

My previous pain management doctor wanted me to try methadone because my pain was hard to control.  After reading a lot here, I decided it wouldn't take the chance.  Some doctors do use it for pain that is hard to control.  My MIL was given it about a month before she died.  It helped her a lot.  I wouldn't consider it unless it was end-of-life-

Ok...so i think i understand why now. After i wrote last night i tried to research why and things came up also about liver and kidney issues being a reason why a dr would prescribe methadone as a pain reliever. Just needed to know.
If im understanding this correctly, your medical facility is saying your body is addicted, not you??? Lol, i have to laugh b/c you, your body and your mind all work together, dont they? I dont know enough about MS and whats involved to say anything about it, but i do want to say again...I would stay away from the subs. But thats my opinion.

Don't be scared!  You will get through this and when you come out on the other end, you'll get your life back!  I assure you this is doable!  Being that your in a hospital setting, I would think that they (as medical professionals) can make you as comfortable as possible while you go through this.  I detoxed off of subs and I found that I had to look deep inside of me, for a strength that I always knew I had, but I NEVER used!  You have it, we all do.  Just be done with this crap!  On the subs, it took about day 2/3 for real w/d to kick in and YES, it sucked ***!!!!  Not going to lie....but you will come out on the other end....a bit rough around the edges, but out!  Then, and this so far has been quite a blessing....you will get to learn who you are again!  Because we forget!  The drugs numb us....I'll take feeling any day of the week!

@ motye51. --lily is dependent not addicted. Much differe t.

@lily subutex has only one component.
Hun try not to anticipate or fear the withdrawal.
It is different this time you are being medically supervised.
The clonindine Will help alot.
Keep the faith.
Stay encouraged.
You will get through this.
Hugs,
Debbie

So explain to me what's the difference of dependent and addicted?  Maybe I'm confused? If your body requires a med or drug to function, what's the difference?  TOTALLY NOT BEING SARCASTIC....would like to know for future reference?  I don't truly understand this?

you made the right decision.  if your goal is to be off all meds, then best not to transfer the med from one to another.
methodone and suboxone withdrawals are both long.

we have several people who have done it and you can too.
if they let you stay another day or 2 then that will help you. make sure they give you anything they can to make it more comfortable for you,

the oxycodone is helping you more than you know right now.  just make sure you don't take that for long.

the worst should be - no sleep, restlessness, RLS, anxiety, nausea, no appetite, no energy

withdrawal from methodone won't kill you, it is just extremely uncomfortable.
try not to worry too much about them.  everyone is so different.  i have read horror stories and i have read where people had a very easy, short detox,

since it is 2/3 mental, try to stay positive.  watch funny movies or videos. listen to music as loud as you can (headphones).  both release natural feel good chemicals. so does exercise, but you may not be up to that right now.

STAY HYDRATED.  if you get dehydrated you will feel 100 times worse.

i have pneumonia in both lungs right now and honestly i would rather be going through detox.
just like there is not much i can do right now to make it go away faster or feel better (nothing is working) there is not really much you can do either but wait it out,

like i said it is 2/3 mental.  convince yourself you are just sick with the flu and will feel better as it runs it course,
