C/T from opiates with marijuana

I'm on day 3 of quitting a 75 to 150 mg of oxy habit. Ive been smoking abou 3 grams of marijuana a day, my wd symptons dont seem that bad. I have had no diarhea and no restless legs. Is there a connection. My opiate addiction has been going on for about 4 years.

Hi Climb! Great that  wanna get clean and free yourself from this drug! I was up to about 250mg a day when I went CT 30 days ago. I smoked also but I have nothing to compare it to if it helped or not. If you feel ok then great ...don't worry to much about why. just ride this out! After day 5 it should really get better each day anyway so your just about there. U cab get alot of support here so stick around.

Hi. After i posted ive just been and looked it up. Im in England and we have different brand names here. It just goes to show how everyone is different when it comes to opiate Addiction. If i smoke pot when im withdrawing from opiates it increases my symptoms dramticly. Its not to bad when im high on the pot but, as soon as it wears off, im in real trouble. Horses 4 courses i suppose. What i will say, if its helping you its up to you. stay strong

Yes.....Many on here will not agree with the smokie smokie as a detox aid because it is not currently legal BUT for me and many others, it really took the edge off of withdrawal.  I do not use it anymore and only used it for the first month or so but it really helped.  I do not think it does anything for the actual brain part since they work differently from each other but I think it helps distract the brain from dwelling on the constant pain, depression, and anxiety that is usually associated with early withdrawal.

As for you light symptoms, congrats!  This should be a sign that this should be the last time!  Oxy is one of the harder drugs to detox off of so count your lucky stars that you are not completely paralyzed by withdrawal.  I am a little nervous that you have not gone into full withdrawal yet though......Oxy has a short half life but you may still have some swirling around in the ole body.....Keep drinking lots of water and take your supplements and run......run and never look back!  Good luck and God bless!!!

Hi climb,
Welcome! It makes me happy that another person decided to choose themselves, rather than the doc... to be quite frank, I'll agree with justneedtotalk, there are many that discourage the pot to help with the detox, but I believe that it's more of a personal choice. I have 36 days under my belt and I'll tell ya, from experience ... after detoxing off subutex and suboxone, the whole mental aspect was awful! On the other tho, the days that I couldn't stop crying, those were the days that I used pot to "help" with my mood and my appetite. Not proud to say that I used something illegal to better my mood, but I only used it a few times. Like I said it's a personal choice and if it helps then go for it... just b careful that u don't trade one addiction for another ... good luck hun and god bless

As I have never been one to dabble in pot, I did have quite a few ppl tell me that it does in fact help with withdrawals.
I would be scared that I was just trading one drug for another.
As far as you being on day 3 and not yet being in "the thick" of your withdrawals, you may have gotten lucky this time.
I too, did not have the real bad withdrawals this last time and many ppl told me that I had been given a "get out of jail free" card.
Whatever the case may be, I still had mild physical withdrawals but the mental part of it was out of this world so NO, I did not get out of it easy!
You may experience the same.

Getting clean requires no use of any mood altering drugs.

I can agree that it doesnt 'require' it for some people  domino ... Depending on what and how much they were taking of their DOC.... but if I had to choose between taking a Xanax/Valium (which I've never taken before but which seems to be prescribed quite often in detox) or smoking , I would def choose the latter.  It helped. I'm def not saying someone who never smoked should start and I think people understand that. If it's just about the legality of it ...it depends where in the world you live. If it's about addiction to it ...it depends on which professionals u ask

And i will correct one thing I said.... 'it helped' .... I don't really have anythin to compare it to  but I got through my rough physical wd's ok at the end for slot of reasons.

Ive never read anything about it being physically addictive, and it is definately illigal in North Carolina, but so is abusing prescription drugs. It seems to be working for ME. I just wanted to share because if it helps to beat a terrible illness (opiate addiction) than thats a good thing.

Yeah I agree Climb... It's legal in alot of places and tolerated in many more, especially in Europe. And if it helps or if you think it helps then overcome your addiction by any means!

I agree with Mike and Climb on this.
I know alot of ppl who smoke it and everyone of them says it is not addicting, for them anyways.
And honestly, I would much rather be doing this than being on Xanax or Valium for a short term thing.
To each his own I suppose.
I learned the first week of detox through NA, that alcohol is considered a drug?
If that is the case, I relapsed my first week.  I do not agree with this.
If smoking is helping you get through w/d's, then by all means, go ahead.

And for those that don't agree then I'll smoke one for ya' .... No seriously I'm just  adding a little humor to this discussion but do what works best for you....as long as u are not hurting yourself in any serious way. Def not addictive to me or anyone  I know who smokes. Never heard of someone having wd's from not having it nor have I heard of anyone robbing a bank to Have money to get it.

You dont need to light one up for me.  I still stand by what i said.  I no longer need that feeling of euphoria.

You don't need to light one for me either. I get my euphoria the good old fashioned way, which does not include any mind or mood altering substances.

I have never understood how people justify putting smoke in their lungs, whatever kind that might be.  People go to rehab for pot, right?   People in TX get arrested for having pot, right?   You can find research either way, it's addictive, it's not.  The young people I know who do smoke pot seem unmotivated.   I know this is about getting through withdrawals and I may have smoked if I had had the opportunity, I don't know, but I'm glad I didn't.

Good topic and the way I read it about 50-50 with you all. Me I am a smoker and I think it helped me get through a lot of this and I do what ever it takes to stay off the pain pills. And I live in a state where I go to jail for having it the firs 4-5 days of my detox I dident have any smoke went got some and frost thing it did was help with my up set gut got me start eatting more and it helps me with my pain most people will tell me I just swiching one drug for another I was going to go to an after care but when I told them I still smoking they told me I can't go till I can pass a drug test so I told them no thank u I try to never take another pain pill. But if I whant to smoke a little I see no wrong in it. I am 20 days with no pain pills so I feel I doing somethig right

I'm confused about your comment that read, "I have never understood how people justify putting smoke into their lungs"...
Not sure what your doc was but if your on this forum than I am to assume that you put some sort of drug into your body that either wasn't good for you to begin with or it was prescribed and become an addiction which means you were probably taking alot more than prescribed which in reality, was not good for you either.
So I'm not quite understanding how you cannot see why people justify putting smoke into their bodies while others, including yourself, were putting dangerous amounts of drugs into your/their bodies?

Pot doesn't help as it works on different receptors.
