Came clean to my dr today.

How totally embarrassing. I broke down Abd begged for help. Explained my situation and that I have been addicted to 50 mg of
Methadone for 6-4 months now. I lost count. Ha. She was amazing. And told me what I was doing shows her just how guilty and sad I felt. She was understanding in my worries about my daughter. And told me shed rather me be honest and ask for help cause it has showed her that I want sobriety. She has put me on 100mg of neuronitin for the wds. But I'm going to taper myself for this week and jump off at 15 mg. has anyone had experience with neuronitin for opiate detox.

That';s a big step you just took..good for you !!  I have never heard of gabapintin used for detox.

I had to get off of methadone so I can sympathize with you, do a slow detox.   Methadone is a 18 mo. withdrawal so its not easy, I got down to to a really low dose and I couldn't finish it off on my own..went into a detox/recovery program.   I had a lot of other medical issues too..

Just keep in touch with the people here, I think its almost as bad when using it as it is coming off it.

hugs, meg

Congratulations on taking the first step! It felt SO good when I told my dr I didn't want her to prescribe me anymore pain meds so I can imagine the relief u felt after coming clean. There is NOTHING to be embarrassed about!

I was prescribed neurontin for sciatic nerve pain when I decided to quit taking opiates. I noticed a big difference in the withdrawal symptoms when I took it. Like tomskat mentioned above, it really helps with the rls. I still had other symptoms but they weren't as intense as they normally are.

Congrats on wanting to get off the methadone and for coming clean to your doctor. It just goes to show how serious you are about this! Most people refuse to inform their doctor out of embarrassment but there is no reason to be embarrassed. Doctors are there to help and we pay them to provide us with a service.

You'll get there. Just dig deep and give it everything you've got!

Best of luck.

Hi there and congratulations on being honest with your doctor!! What an incredible step to take! I can imagine your fear prior to your admission, and the relief afterwards!! i have used gabapentin/neurontin in the past. Neurontin is used to treat neuropathic pain as well as a variety of other things. It will help with RLS also. So what strength did she put you on? Is she tapering you off the methadone? I guess I'm a bit confused on those 2 points. Congratulations on your new-found feeling of relief!! Stay strong!!

I don't have any experience with Neurontin, but coming clean with your MD is
awesome! I did it, and I was/am so grateful I did. He was extremely supportive and helpful. Docs (at least the decent ones) don't want us to be
strung out on meds. Mine understood and was happy that I chose to live rather than die of addiction. On the same day,  about three weeks ago, I deleted all contact info with all my "other" sources of pills. I got rid of all my supply of narcotics. I went C/T from that day and it's been a ride but wow,
I can't even express how happy I am to feel again. Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it's hanging on for one more hour, but making the decision to
get honest with people and cut all ties to drugs has helped so much. Don't be embarrassed. It took a lot of strength and courage to fess up. nothing to be embarassed about.
