Day 4 off norco

I am just starting day 4 off of norco 5/325.  I took usually 4-5 a day.  Originally for back pain and then for help dealing with my marriage woes.  It's been about 5 months.  There was a few weeks months ago where I took Percocet, because I literally could not walk.  Of course my back is fine, but my emotional pain continued.
Anyway, I was advised by GP that I was over using them and he would not prescribe anymore, which is true, I was overusing.
Okay, so here I am with 4 year old twins and a 12 year old and a husband that has caused me a lot of pain (however, that has improved and we are getting counseling, but I'm not over it.). I am on Celexa 40mg and 5 mg ambien and Xanax, (low dose, .25mg x 3 a day).  The ambien and Xanax are mostly used for sleep, but I have been taking the Xanax during the day due to major anxiety bouts since I stopped the norco, or maybe the norco was masking it.
I just have these moments of feeling so down.  I never want to take those pills again, I just wish I would feel better.  Will I start to feel good about life soon?

Thanks for responding!
I am actually more concerned about sleeping now than the norco.  I started with 5mg ambien and went up to the 12.5, and I still only slept 3-4hours, so I went back down to 5mg.

You are right about the prescription, I am meeting with my doc next week and I want him to see I did not pick it up, plus, I am afraid I would get in trouble if I did pick it up after he told me no more.

Your support is so kind, thank you!

Hello and congratulations on 5 days off Norco!  That is amazing and I know it has not been easy.  It takes a lot of willpower and resolve to quit an opiate like you have.  At this point you should start feeling better a little more every day.  In my opinion you should just cancel that script that got called in.  In a moment of weakness (which we all have - even at months and years clean); you don't want to go backwards.  It is NOT easy to do what you have, many people struggle with it daily.  You don't ever have to go there again.  And if the pills are not available, you wont be tempted.

It is great that you got some exercise going - amazing what is does for the attitude isn't it?  I quit a 15 year opiate habit about 4 months ago.  Exercise has probably been the biggest factor in my success at staying clean.  I also took Ambien and Klonipin (a benzo) over the years as well.  I have always had sleeping issues (even before the opiates).  I was taking the 12 mg CR's for about 2 years.  After about a month clean my doctor started tapering me down, first to the 10's (not CR's), then 5's and down from there.  At 4 months clean I can tell you I am sleeping (naturally) better than I have in YEARS!  And it is awesome.  I'm sure you know not to quit the Ambien and/or the benzo suddenly or at the same time(?).  You have already made a HUGE accomplishment by getting off the Norco - I am SO happy for you.  Now, just one day at a time . . . . you are doing great!

Hi Vickie, evolver, openmind and lild-
Day 5 almost over, actually exercised today on my elliptical.  I felt anxious and took melatonin, it really helped.  I'm so done with norco.  Another doc refilled my prescription by accident as my GP is gone this week.  It is ready to be picked up, but I am so glad that I have no desire to get it.  It is a no-win situation.  I haven't even had to take Tylenol today.  Now, to deal with my sleeping issues and sleeping pills(which I was taking before the norco).
Words cannot describe what your words meant to me, just when I needed it.  To be so supportive and kind to a complete stranger makes me speechless.  I have read and re-read your responses many times.  Thank you.

Hi again..I am glad about the benzo. It is all up to you..It sounds to me that you were not real out of control. I am proud of you.It might have or not really got you going...I just wanted to share from my expereince a few other things you could try...We do have alot of natural, otc ect. things we use for anxiety or sleep..Like OpenMind said the depressent part is between you and your Dr...But they do use a non-addictive med called Buspar (Buspirone) for anxiety...NOT Wellbutrin (Bupropion)..It is very mild and is not in the chart those other meds are for the addiction..Talk to your DR and see what he/she says about tapering off the meds if you no longer want them...I think you will be fine. You seem to very wise about all of this..
Keep in touch..We come rolling in & out..You can help out with your experiences too...

Sorry-pushed post comment by accident.
Anyways, I've always had trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, falling back asleep.  This is the first time I took prescription meds for sleep.  But I want to get off the ambien and Xanax too, as with a lot of prescription meds, you use them too often and they don't work anymore.
You all and the others on this site are extremely motivating and caring.  Thanks for the positive feedback, it means a lot to me.

Thanks for your reply, and same to evolver and open mind.
To clarify Vicki, I've been taking mostly norco for the last 5 months.  I am now on day 4 w/o any norco.
You are all right about the benzos.  They are a depressant.  I have always taken Tylenol pm for years f

Having the desire to get your life back together by kicking mind altering drugs is half the battle. That's all it takes to get going. The desire to quit using puts you well on your way. With what you have going right now it will take some time but It's very doable. Right now you seem well on your way on stopping norco. Just a couple of more days and you'll be feeling much better from detoxing. Ambien and Xanax will take some time with very slow tapers.

Many of us on this site have detoxed from opiates and benzos. But I personally feel Celexa or any other antidepressant should be something between you and your doctor. He knows you far better than anyone on this site.

In 2010 I was on 10mg Ambien and Vicodin 7.5s. First I detoxed from the vicodin, and then I tapered off the Ambien, which took about 4 months. My GP also prescribed Xanax .25 for me, but I stayed away from it. Stopping Xanax suddenly is dangerous. That didn't sit well with me...

Don't try stopping this all at once. From my personal experience, tapering down from 5mg Ambien should go fairly smooth for you as your first goal. Xanax would be your next goal. We don't give taper charts on this site. Again, you need your doctor's input on all of this. He has your medical charts and of course he prescribed everything to begin with. You need to be completely honest with him about your desire to get completely clean. I really think he'll be very happy to hear that.

Congratulations on reaching out for help and having the desire to get clean. You can do this!!

Hey & Welcome,
Congrats on your 4 days! YES! You're doing it. I suspect that as you intuited the Norco was masking the rebound effects of the two Benzos and the anti-depressant you are on. (While the Ambien may not be classed as a Benzo it hits the same receptors.) All three mess w/your serotonin levels and can cause rebound depression and anxiety. The fact that you're taking it during the day time is a red flag. Is there a way you could talk to your Dr. about a Xanax taper? That said, it's natural at this point in your detox to be on an emotional roller coaster. You're going through the worst of it right now. The acute symptoms should start to ease in 1 - 3 days. The really good news is you only have 5 mos. in. This is Definitely the time to stop. The longer you have in, the harder it gets. Yes, you will feel better. Be patient and keep your eye on the prize. It gets easier. Keep Posting. We're Here.

Hi and welcome...From my expereince due to life..I had to give it to my "GOD"..and still due to this day...Support is a big one...You are taking two pills for sleep...I do know that my benzo just made me more depressed.
Can you taper off of that one..(Xanax) ??Just hang tight the opiates that are detoxing out play a big roll on our emotions..Did you state you had only 4 days clean???or 5-months.? You are doing good either way..Just keep checking your post..
