Ummmm.....yeah it does. If I were you, I don't think I would go back to that doctor, at least not for anything important! Sounds like an idiot??? That's not real smart b/c oxy's are way stronger so I don't understand the thought process behind that at all??????
That makes no sense to me. Sure it will mask the withdrawals as it has a similar effect as hydro, but even stronger. Both are opiate based. I'm not a Dr. but I think I would get a different opinion. There is no easy way to get rid of withdrawals unfortunately.
Oh wow!! That's crazy. This is the same doc that had given you the hydros to begin with? There has to be something missing here that we haven't heard because this makes no scense what's so ever? First off OxyContin is WAY stronger of a drug, and if you were already on day 5 you were almost past the physical w/d. So what was the reason you went and told him of the w/d's? Were looking for something to help with them,or did you need a diff pain reliever? So much that doesn't piece together. More info will help. I can't call you're doc down because I don't the whole situation. But if you were wanting to quit the hydros in the first place I deff wouldn't keep taking the oc
Yes I went to doc and said I was having withdrawals and she gave me oxys (and also for back pain) but my real concern was dependency which I told her. She assured me that the hydro after 5 days was out of my system. Well I took the oxys for 2 days and realized it was crazy so threw them away and am now off all for 8 days. Could the 2 days of Oxy sent me back to day 1? I have been through hellish depression, anxiety and loss of energy, appetite etc. I went back to doc again and just told her flat out that I felt it was a bad call on her part and she agreed. ugh. time for new doctor. I will never go through this hell again. Ibuprofen 4-eva!
also, I am so fearful this will never end? will it???
Oh yes it will end. I know it feels like it won't but it will. It mostly depends on the length of time you were on the meds and how long you were taking them as to how long all this will last. And yes the oxy would have restarted your w/d's. You should be pretty well almost over the physical part. The anxiety, insomnia and lack of energy can last awhile depending on how long you were on them.
Oops I ment "depends on the length you were taking them, and how many a day you were taking as to how long the mental w/d last" do you have any form of aftercare,it will make you not feel so alone through this. Also try to push yourself to do things. Go for walks or exercise if you're able. Don't just sit and dwell on how crappy you feel or it will take even longer to recover. I learned that the hard way.
I was on (4) 10/325 per day for a year but often would have days/weeks where I would just take 1-2 if pain was ok (one or two weeks on 6 a day if back was out). It was only after I re-hurt my back 6 months ago that I realized if I skipped a dose I would start withdrawals. I was in total denial.
I have support with therapist and friends. But I am wearing out my welcome!
Hey JJ. I believe the doc was responding to your statement about dependence and concerns about addiction. Oxycontin was originally marketed as an opiate that could not be abused because it was time released. Well we addicts found a way around that. Sounds like she isn't too knowledgeable about that and was going off what she knows to help you with your pain. Anyway, glad you tossed them. Keep moving forward.
