3 weeks no percs and broke down

I was doing so well! I went CT and suffered like a dog and dealt with the anxiety etc... But I just opened up my business and have been doing Soooooo much physical labor with 3 herniated discs and two knees that need surgery... I was doing ok with the pain until today and took two vics throughout the day to get me by.... Granted I was taking 15 10/325 percs a day to nothing, the two I took today was not a lot but helped my pain so much! But now I feel like a failure! Why couldn't I just deal? Is this going to set me back? 3 weeks clean and one day made me feel like a loser....

YAY!  Thanks!  I TOLD you it would help!!!  It really does!  I don't think most people really believe me on this one, soooo glad you did it though :)  Glad you're feeling a little better too.  It will be somewhat of a roller coaster ride, but so worth it in the end.  You know this :)  Keep up the good work and keep on smiling girl!  ;)

Any time :)  It's hard at times but like you said time is your best friend and worst enemy.  Most of the cravings will pass eventually when your body realizes that you won't give it any more.  Just stay strong :)  And as I tell everyone when you're having a bad day, and even when you're not look in the mirror and smile.  Just smile.  And say outloud "I'm amazing!  I CAN do this!"  You might feel dumb at first, but after a couple times you'll feel super great about yourself!!!  Try it...trust me on this one ;)

Thank you, SO much!!! It's nice to hear someone say such positive things. And it's so true, I feel like I'm learning how to live all over again. It's so confusing because I'm so happy sober, I'm laughing so much and have so much emotion that was numb but yet that little devil is sticking with me! Time is my best friend AND my worst enemy right now... I just want the cravings to go away....

Hi!  When the pain is unbearable think of all those days you were so sick and dying because of those pills.  They did that to you.  You don't want to go back.  SOOOO not worth it!!  You're doing great!  I think the hardest part of quitting is living sober.  You have to get used to doing EVERYTHING again, but this time sober.  You CAN do this!!!  You are amazing!  Look what you've done so far!!!  Keep up the good work!  And when you think about using and are in super amount of pain come here and post! It helps!!!

I've already noticed on a general basis I'm in less pain, it's just some days are unbearable. right now it's a mix of physical and emotional. It's only been a little over 3 weeks and I sort of feel lost but yet feel great... It's very strange and hard to deal with. I just wish I knew when the cravings will go away. I think about using every day even if it's just for a second I say, oh how I'd love a few percs right now. But I get through it. I'm scared that's not going to go away and one day I'll end up back where I was like so many others have done. I want this to be my first and last time. I keep praying and even started going to meetings but still the same. I need strength right now....

When you have pain in addition to addiction or dependence, you really need to try to find a plan for your pain.  Try to piece together a bunch of things that help a little.  I love my ibuprofen.  I'd rather go without everything else but that.  There are prescription and OTC patches that can help.  Also prescription and OTC gels/creams.  Some people like ice, though heat works better for me.  From what I've read and been told, pain will lessen after being off the pills for a while.

Slip, fall.
Slip, fall.
Slip, fall.

We are addicts. It's in our nature to slip & fall.

The difference between being an addict & an addict-in-recovery, is that an addict slips & falls and doesn't get back on the horse.

You're in the right place, Brother.

Get back on your horse, and giddyup!!!

HI WElcome to the forum ....well asb for setting yourself back physically your fine its what it does to you mentally that will destroy you....feeling like a failure is common you gave something your best shot and blew it....its a real mind screw  you just gto to pick yourself up dust yourself off and start over....use this as a learning experience as addicts we can reason our selfs into anything it starts out with one or 2 and b/4 you know it your eating 15 a day again....the first thing you MUST KNOW IS YOU DONT HAVE CONTROL OVER INTAKE
and when you think you do its your addiction talking ....I know all about chronic pain try using muti otc pain meds like a couple ove ibuprofine and some tylonol or alive together this often takes the edge off for me  also working threw pain your body will build up a natural resistance to it and it wont be as bad all of this is learned as you go but trust me there is no pill here or there fro an addict.....good luck and God bless  Gnarly
