Getting off Fioricet...finally

Hi All, I posted back in Sept about getting off F-cet. I have been on and off of it for so long, but the last 3 years have been steadily taking them. For the last 6 weeks i have gone from  6 tablets a day to 4 a day. It may not sound like a lot, but this is a tough pill to quit b/c of the fact that you can't go CT. I was also on pain pills for a while. thankfully I dont even think about them...ever. In fact I had surgery on my arm last year and had to take them. I was so afraid of the w/d, but i guess because i didnt abuse them, i didnt have any?? Etiher way, its alwys been some drug with me.
So I have 38 tablets left and have worked out a taper plan, as to not get another refill. Knowing that if i get another refill, the process begins all over again. I have worked hard to get where I am today. Not a lot of w/d symptoms, but the mental discipline it takes to have the control to limit myself to 4 pills is immense.
Someone's ( on Medhelp) words to me awhile back were "its not a race". Thank God for her. She has inspired me everyday to do better. So when you think that your story and support to others doesnt make a differenc, think agian!
Here's to the days ahead that will be challeging, but most rewarding. I'm going after it!
Good luck to everyone who is going through a tough time.

Thanks again, LeeAnn. Even though I've been here before, I need all of the encouragement I can get.  I appreciate your support!
Have a great day!

Definitely, at least with most drugs.  But with barbs and benzos the physical stuff can be pretty scary, so you have to do the taper even though you'd like to just get it over!  I've been on stuff before that should have been tapered like phenobarbital and ambien and you do NOT want to do that!!  NOT at all!  If you have a good plan, you should be just fine.  Just don't waver from it either way.  A LOT of people like to skip doses to hurry the process along, but like you said.......it's not a race!  They don't end up hurrying it along when they have a relapse!!!!

You can do it!  You've been around long enough to know what to do, so it'll be a breeze! : )

Hi LeaAnn, thank you! I've been on and off f-cet most of my life, but it seems like this has been the toughest bout. I have a lot of personal things going on in my life and instead of dealing with them, well, i just took a pill. DUMB, i know. Thanks for the well wishes. I kow a big part of w/d or taper is mental.

I wish you the best with it!  However, I was thinking that you got off of them a LOOOONG time ago?  Maybe I'm thinking about the opiates?  Anyway, good luck.  As you know from Vicki, it's not easy.  The thing to remember is don't skip doses.  Keep it a constant in your system.  I sure hope it's as pain-free as possible for you!
