Going off tramadol

I am going off tramadol and feel that I am hurting so bad.  I ran out of the medicine and had been taking 200 mg. for about 6 months but was on a lower dose for several years.  It started out that my legs were hurting so bad and no one could tell me what was wrong but finally a doctor at UVA said that I had fibromyalgia.  So now there is a name to the pain but what do I do to stop some of the pain.  I have decided to go off the tramadol to see if I can feel better.  It doesn't seem to help as much as usual and if I do not take it I have pain in my neck and twitches in my shoulders muscles.  I don't sleep and feel that I am a basket case when it comes to my emotions.  I feel that after reading some of the post on here that the medicine is the cause of a lot of how I am feeling.  I have not had tramadol for 2 days and I have been miserable and hurt so bad.  I have taken hydrocodone to try to help with the pain but feel I don't know how to go about stopping the meds. and controlling some of the pain.  If there are suggestions that you can give me to help with  the pain and stop this drug I would be thankful.  I have a granddaughter that lives with me that is 10 and feel I cry all the time and that is not what I want her to see.

It is non-narcotic but it works on the mu receptor like an opiate, that's what I understand. Semantics :( And as you probably know it causes your brain to dump serotonin (not like an SSRI). It is an SNRI, I believe, though, so it slows the uptake of norepinepherine, causing you to feel more of that neurotransmitter's effect, but via a different mechanism. Is that correct, someone who has acctual medical training?

So with all these chemicals having to rebalance, coming off of it is really, super fun. Ought to be the new fright ride at Six Flags.

To ease your comfort, for more than just gut reasons, I recommend taking Loperamide (Immodium). Also Melotonin or Unisom for sleep, and other recommendations found in the Thomas Recipe for detox.

A supplement called Rhodiola rosea is helping me a lot with my mood. You might try that.

I totally get not wanting to be grumpy around a child. I'm there, too.

Take care

Obviously I am wrong but I've always been told that tramadol was non-narcotic. Why is that such a widely known lie? I thought it was the safest pain killer to use. Wrong I guess!!!!
