Thanks again, no I'm not on blood pressure med. But from what you all said (especially Htounnofrown) I'll wait it out. Sounds normal. Any idea how long it last?
If it is from the lack of opiates, its normal. It may be something else, but opiates depress the respiratory system and a week or two after the drugs are gone your respiratory system kicks into overdrive.
I've got a sponsee just over 2 weeks clean and he's goin thru the same thing. I'd get it checked just in case, the immune system is all spun off after detox. Good Luck!

Some blood pressure meds. can give you a nasty dry cough.
Opiates act to "retard" the respiratory system so it does not surprise me that you are experiencing those effects. I always recommend that people get a good check-up, including blood work, after stopping drugs just to be certain everything is well. We spend so many years abusing our minds and bodies, you never can tell what we may have done.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
In my experience I always get sick post detox. Ive had more upper respiratory infections in the months since quitting than I ever had the entire time I used.
I think your body takes a beating using and detoxing. Your immunity is low post detox. Lack of sleep. Lack of exercise. Depression. These can all trigger a drop in you immune system.
Try some vitamins. There are some great immunity vitamins on the market. I take one from the makers of "Cold-Eez" its all kinds of vitamins (200% of daily recommended) plus a lot of amino acids. They've been helpful. Get some hot green tea with ginseng. Drink lots of OJ. We really need to replish our bodies after so many years of abusing and the he11 of w/drawal.
Definitely see a doctor though. I do everytime I get the respiratory stuff.. Its usually nothing too bad..
Congrats on your well earned 30 days of clean-dom! Way to go.
Feel better.
Oh I went thru the hell. Had full blown W/D's. The cough developed two weeks in, as the pain was subsiding. Still not sleeping and have NO engery, I mean NO energy. But I consider it's all gravy after those first two weeks.
Are you on any high blood pressure meds?
Actually, in a way, yes:
I had a period some time ago when I was on Suboxone, trying to get off Norco. This was maybe a year and a half ago. I had a scary experience, so decided, screw it, I'm gonna cold turkey.
So I stopped.
A week went by. Nothing. No symptoms. A little stiff, kinda sore, but small price, right?
Two weeks. Still nothing. A bit more stiff, something of a runny nose, but again, tiny, tiny price. It was at this time I was genuinely starting to believe in God. I'd been cured! Some miraculous recovery had been visited upon me!
Then, around day 18, *BAM*! It was like everything came back and hit me all at once. Full blown WD's, sicker than crap, you name it. I took a 4mg Sub, absolutely fine again.
Still, I figured, one 4mg every two weeks? Still a deal! It never worked that way again though. Ever since I've had the standard pattern of WD's when I stop.
If it's been a month for you, and the only side effect you have is a runny nose, thank whatever god you pray to, and just stay the hell clean! I'd give my left thumb to "insta-quit", but I have no delusions that it can happen. If it has to you, thank your lucky stars, and don't look a gift horse in the mouth. STAY OFF!

Hi~ I've heard of folks complaining of this but I'm not sure if it was ever really related to opiate withdrawal. Any pain with the cough? Coughing for over a week?
In general,I think it's always a good idea to get a check up and full blood work up after coming off anything!! Especially after years of abuse. :)
Sometimes, a dry cough is a sign of dehydration. So,start increasing your fluid intake while you call for that doctor's appt.
Feel better~
