Help ,Husband on Oxycotin 20 years

My husband started taking oxycontin when he had his first neck operation, has  had  more neck surgery, 2 knee replacements, and shoulder  replacement .  He is now on 10mg pills, X3  every 12 hours and crushes and eats at least one per day.  Also has RX for oxycodone for break thu pain. He doesn't think he is addicted and and is toying with the idea of getting off the pills because I said I think that the pills are frying his brain.

My question is, what effects does oxycontin have on the brain.  He gets them free , workers comp pays, so he doesn't have anxiety and money worries about getting his pills.  He does not sleep well, is angry all the time, doesn't go anywhere or do anything but lay in bed, watch TV and a few things around the house.  At all times he is negative about everything.  Is this a typical behavior?  Is there a site where I can read more about oxycontin and the long term effects?

Please help me to understand.

For me, when I have a flair up in my l-4,l-5 area, it seems there is a nerve connected directly from there to my attitude.I have learned to recognize it, and for me it is real. Pain makes anybody grouchy, if it hurts long and bad enough. Maybe some people can stay all bubbly, but most I think will agree. To someone who is not in constant pain, no explanation is possible, to someone in constant pain, no explanation is necessary. If he's crushing up his pills to get relief, he may need a higher dose. Most people I believe if they take enough, get a little happier, that's why nationally there is such a problem with it, people like it! But it's not good to use unless, needed and prescribed. I do think after 20 years of using it, there probably has been some chemical changes to his chemistry. Things change, and that many years of pain, sure it affects a person.
