Help

Need to know how to get thru the next few days withdrawing from tramadol and vicodin. I'm doing it alone and am really scared I might need medical help for this. I've been taking up to 8 tramadol at a time 3 or 4 times a day, and 6 or 8 vicodin at a time 3 or 4 times a day for 10 months. What should I do?

First off, congrats on making the decision to clean it up!

I know it feels almost hopeless during the first week or so.  What you really need to do is find it in yourself to surrender to this.  You need to "let it go."  I know that sounds really oversimplified, but the detox will be much easier if you can resign yourself to the fact that this will be quite unpleasant.  But you will live.  And then thrive.

I found that sleep was essential for me during the first few days.  Sometimes it is impossible, but always a good way to get a break from the discomfort.  Take a long hot bath and then jump right into bed.  It helps.   I also have begun using epsom salts in the bath to aid in the detox and soothe the sore muscles and acheive an overall sense of relaxation.   Try to find a good balance between rest and light exercise.  The movement will stimulate your brain to release endorphins which are a natural painkiller and help ward off the depression.  Many people here find tremendous relief in the sense of community this site offers.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE.  All of us will help you in every way we can.  Do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it.  You should talk with your doctor and develop a good plan for the tapering, should that be the way you decide to proceed.  I went cold turkey and it was miserable.  But your strongest ally will be your ability to let go of the internal struggle.  Avoid the conversation with yourself:  "Should I use?  Just one more pill...?"  Try not to entertain these thoughts.  Let go and let love in.

You are ready.  You are strong.  You will surprise yourself with your own strength and integrity.  I promise you that it will soon get better if you can just resign yourself to the fact that this will be hard and you will be sick.  But the fact is that you will emerge, go forth and thrive!

Keep on posting and good luck to you.
I am here for you, anything ya need.

welcome, start with the withdrawling from the vicodin first, continuing taking the tramadol, then you need to slowly taper yourself from the tramadol, don't just stop c/t. also check out the thomas recipe and amino acid protocol, bananas, hot baths and gatorade. because it is so late, there arent many online right now, there will be more tomorrow that have more experience with tramadol. just wanted to welcome you and let you know we care and support you. read other threads and keep posting.
