I will be tapering down to 5mg on next Monday 3/31/14.  If after 3-4 days of 5mgs I want to go off completely.  I have tapered down from 40mg daily for about a year due to knee surgeries.  Will the Wd's be too bad to go on a trip with other people beginning on 4/10?

Congrats on day one!!! I'm on day 5 today and I'm still going thru but as I look back it does get much much better just keep your mind busy. Music, hot showers, walking, funny movies, Advil, vitamins, and lots of fluid helped me out tremendously. You got this and keep posting and talking it helps a lot. Congrats again!!

Hi there & Welcome!

Congrats on your decision to come off opiates & on your first 24 hrs.! (Well done!;) At this point (acute withdrawals), I'd suggestion that your motivation should rest in patience with the process & yourself. We didn't get addicted in a day & it takes a little time to start feeling better. Just know that what you're going through is completely normal. Since the Xanax didn't work, I'd suggest that you stay away from it as it will interfere w/ your body/mind's healing & readjustment & are also highly addictive in themselves. Clonidine is probably a better option if needed. That said, lack of sleep & low energy are what we have to go through to get to the place we want to be. I promise you it Will get better!!

Hot baths w/ salt (Epsom or table) help w/ muscle aches & anxiety. Massage works well too. As my friends above suggested staying busy will help distract you from 'clock-watching' & psyching yourself out. Go easy on yourself, though. Walking & staying well-hydrated both help. Try to eat small healthy meals even if you don't feel like it. Some of us find that listening to your favorite music with headphones or watching funny movies help to fire those endorphins. Chatting w/ supportive friends/family, journaling and posting on MH are lifelines when you feel stressed.

Headaches are par for the course & are normal for some. Everyone's symptoms vary slightly. Try some aspirin or Ibuprofen, fresh air & again, stay hydrated (2 to 3 liters of plain water per day.) If possible stay away from caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, energy drinks & junk food. They'll dehydrate and/or stimulate you & interfere with healing.

You're doing one of the most important & life-affirming things a person can do!! Hang in there. We're here & we're pulling for you ;)

Hello -

Firstly,  congrats on day 1!!!

It's really tough to be motivated during the 1st few days of the WDs and it's really tough when the weather isn't cooperating but I would suggests keep moving around in your house as much as possible and try to keep your mind as busy as possible with a good book, movies or this forum... Remember to stay hydrated and take as many hot showers and baths as needed to calm down the restlessness... Take the symptoms as they come and most importantly keep focused and determined.. Remember that the WDs are your body and mind ridding itself of all the toxins you put into it..

Keep posting on this forum and keep your eye on the prize!!!

All the best!!!

I'm on day 9 of no Hydrocodone and like many on here will probably tell you, those first 1-5 days are going to be the worst. After that, it really does start to ease up. Sleep's gonna come and go, so learn to treasure whatever you can get and be sure to maybe have a look at the Thomas Recipe that's worked for helping alleviate the symptoms.

I mostly kept myself busy through the first three to five days with music and just trying to stay active and talk to people. Try and make your hobbies and interests work for you a lot right now. It's not gonna last forever, I can promise you that.

Hi Newlife. Go to the library. That's what I'd do if I could.
I've never done this, but I read about a group that meets at the indoor shopping mall, for walking. I think the store fronts keep their minds off reality.
Cooking. I enjoy a cooking show & do it with the show.
Pet care. Groom the pets. I do it twice per day. It calms my nerves.
Hope any suggestion helps.   Do you have aftercare plans?  Pamela
