I'm ready and scared to death

Hello,
It has been awhile, but I have been here before.  I have been on and off for about 2 years.  Now I am sick of it and want to stop.  Someone here told me that I might have to try more than once to quit, well they were right.  I am a functioning user.  I have lots of people depending on me daily for life and care.  Not complaining just know my responsibility.  I find myself worrying more and more about the pills.  I don't use alot, but 2-3 a day when I have them- hydros.  All real scripts, but I am feeling the paranoia- I have been off for at 30 hours now.  I want to tell my dr., but I am so afraid too.  I want him to know - then I have a safety net of sorts. .   I tapered down and then stopped.  It was a quick taper.  My question:  Do you think I can get through this without telling my doc?  I am a strong person, but not sure if I am that strong. I REALLY want to be free of this monster on the side.  The runs are not so bad.  Taking immodium for them.  I have the Thomas Recipe, but only a few Xanax to help get through the first nights.  I think I can do this without the doc, but I thought that before.  If I were to get worse and get into trouble, it would be devistating to people around me.   i have someone living here in the house who knows and can help me.  I also have God in life.  AND i have migraines.  What if I get a bad one and the immitrex doesn't work?  I won't be able to get anything?!   THanks for listening.  I am really ready this time.....I think I will make the dr appt.

You are doing the right thing..Time to be free..

And yes tell your DR, must do understand and want to help.

And if your in real pain than they can treat you without narcotics.
I told mine and now He is treating my pain without the narcotics.
I have found such freedom in being off of the pills.  And I agree
it takes great strenght to do what you are doing..We are here
to help..

I was really scared to talk to my doctor about my addiction, and much to my surprise, he was totally supportive and caring.  He is going to help me get off of them.  You just need to be completely honest with them.  Don't lie to him/her like we as addicts lie to ourselves.."well, i really needed it" or "just one more".  I must say that having a doctor on my side is great and you're right, it is like a safety net.  Telling my doctor also gave me the courage to tell my friends and family.  They were also very supportive, and believe me, they are VERY judgmental.  getting support from a doctor doesn't make you a week person, it makes you a strong one with lots of courage and will.  Stay strong

i think you should tell your dr, because as addicts we tend to make up pain for the dr to write us a scrpit.  there are other things you can take to deal with pain that are non narcotic...and for migraines...i have suffered from them all my life...excedrin migraine works better than any pain med.  i get the headaches that leave you in the bathroom throw ing up sick as a dog and the excedrin helps alot.  you need to cover your bases and not be able to get any pills if you really want to quit.  good luck.

Thanks for answering.  I was just staring at the screen, so you helped just by typing. I will think about it.

Well it is a sad thing, but you have to take a good look at your doctor and try to figure out how he or she is going to react. Some doctors will run scared and not want to see you again. And some will take responsiblilty and try to help.
