Oh make no mistake, I loath drugs too. I've pretty much been on them all. It got to a point I was swallowing 16 pills when i got up in the morning, and dozens more throughout the day.  Doctors will just keep piling them on if you let them, and before you know it you are taking drugs to treat the side effects caused by the drugs.
It took a while but I finally shook them all off,  against all my doctors advises (is that a word?) ,  and started learning how to make myself feel better by using what God gave us all, a truly remarkable body that makes all the drugs you need to feel better.  As you say, there are needs for drugs,  Like when some of those systems aren't working as they should, or something got left out on the assembly floor,  but for most of us just about every man made drug is available from a food source or from within our own bodies as long as you feed it the raw materials for it to manufacture them.
Now I can count the drugs I have to take on a regular basis on one- finger. I don't have to take insulin anymore, and I've even been able to quit the metformin I went on after I stopped needing insulin. I don't have to test my glucose levels 6 or 7 times a day,  maybe once a week just as a precaution.  That's why I'm partial to the natural stuff. It  works!

It wasn't long ago where the only department  in a hospital that had anything to do with nutrition and MAYBE  had a nutritionist was food services-the kitchen!  Now we are starting to see more  Nutrition Departments and nutrition specialists making rounds on  wards.

As neither of us are prescribers, it's kind of a moot point. As I said, I loathe them. I have never taken one in my life, though offered several times; nor would I let my darling mother take them when she was alive. Corticosteroids have their place in the ER and ICU and in certain diseases where they haven't got anything better yet; they are a gift from God, but they are also a deal with the devil himself due to side effects and the oftentimes-unsuccessful taper. I threw the suggestion out to Sabrina because I have seen corticosteroids work nicely in some of my patients, and of course anti-inflammatories are usually pretty good. Every drug is like a shoe--it fits or it pinches. Sometimes you just have to see for yourself!  The main thing is that I am so glad Sabrina feels better, and I know you are too because of all your helpful posts.

I don't know about Prednisone as far as being the best thing for a sore back. Plus it's an immunosuppressant,  it can leave patients more susceptible to infections. Prednisone also seems to work better for upper airway inflammations, COPD  that as a general anti-inflammatory.

Naproxin  and/or Celebrex are more effective NSAID anti inflamitory drugs and don't have potentially serious side effects like prednisone.  naproxine and celebrex can be taken together, celebrex is better for pain and Naproxin

Yeah they did all the expensive stuff.Well I just love that they start By telling me all the stuff I already knew about and Whatever i was taking all the pills for(like I dont know LOL).It got a little confusing because they were telling me the stuff I know about w/other stuff.Basically after no sleep all night i took its pulled muscles, swelling the Dr actually said Wow this really must hurt(really thank-you4the obvious observation).
My hubby is really proud(my mom I called her she is so proud).
Thanks so much for all the support EVERYONE.

I got a pinched nerve like that just from taking my wallet out of my back pocket one time. Then I couldn't move for days. Even lifting a coffee cup was agony. All you can do is just try get those muscles to relax and work it out, take it real easy until it gets better. The Flexerol helps relax the muscles, as well as helps you sleep, which is about all you can do anyways, sleep it off, LoL! You got to be careful with that stuff, it can be addicting. But taking it for a week or so doesn't seem to cause any problems for me anyways.

My God, woman! You are one tough, honest, proud woman, and you should be! So glad that the ER visit went well. I know your family is bursting with pride at how you handled this situation. Well, I am adding my congratulations and a gentle hug, too. Hope you feel some better by tomorrow. Write and let us know....

If you have a swimming pool, floating around on your back and swimming very slowly both on your front and back helps to keep muscles moving and prevent them from contracting. Even though it's the last thing you feel like doing, it does actually help. I used to be a skeptic too until i tried it as part of a hydrotherapy program.

Sounds like you got a pinched nerve. I get those all the time, friken hurts!

I sometimes use cyclobezaprine (flexerol) to relax the mucles, then try gently, stretch it out. tilting your head towards your chest as far as you can while sitting straight, then tilting all the way back as far as you can pulls on the spinal cord ever so slightly, moving it in the spinal canal a little bit and loosening any pinched ganglia that may be pinched.  it's still going to hurt for a few days regardless until any swelling goes down. That's what pills like celebrex are supposed to help with as well.  Warm cold compresses and hot soaks in the tub or hottub if you have one help as well. Make your hubby give you massages. Even if it doesn't help much, tell him it does and you'll be able to get some extra attention for a few days anyways, LoL

Hi, my friend. So very sorry that you got a baaaaaddddd back. How'd you break that bed?   ;-)   Sorry, just teasing you. I shouldn't even try to make you laugh--that hurts, too. I know you are dead-set against using Lortab, and I fully understand. Each person must make their own decision regarding their boundaries about when opiates become necessary (wrote to someone last night about that).
I'd go to the ER tomorrow AM if MIL can take care of the young'un a couple hours. Get them to write you a script for Naprosyn (naproxen--same as Aleve, but in a prescription dose) if it is compatible with any meds or health conditions of yours. And as much as I loathe them, occasionally I recommend prednisone. Both Aleve/Naprosyn and prednisone are fantastic anti-inflammatories, and work somewhat differently. Perhaps you could benefit from these. Those and a heating pad on low heat only. Even with opiates it takes time to get over a bad back, so perhaps the non-opiates will do as well, or at least almost as well. I feel so bad for you--hope you have a better night and are able to feel better soon.

I wish I were1of the people who have will power/control but if I could handle only taking1or2a day I would've never had to quit and I can't go on that roller coaster again.Plus this is the1st time n months(since I quit)where I CAN'T get my pain under control w/otc meds, patience+a surprising amount of will power to not get narcotics(who knew).I'm far too scared to convince myself I have my addiction under control and I'll b fine w/taking only a couple a day I did that month after month for years.I haven't tried acupuncture. That's a good idea.I wish that were an option right now. Thanks though I will look n2that n the future.

Well, Congrats on 100 days. You don't have to be in pain. But the real question is, can you take 1 or 2 per day. If not than you must find another way. I'm an Acupuncturist....yea go figure but have you ever tried it? It works miracles.
