How long does it take for me to get addicted to Methadone? I have a reason for this question...

Ok, so i am wondering how long it takes in order for my body to become dependent on methadon? Like, how long does someboy "typically" have to take it in order for them to go through withdrawls when quitting?
I am contemplating on taking Methadone for just a few days to help me get off of Prescription pills. I take quite a bit of them...........like 15-20 Norco's 10/325 a day. This has just got to stop, but I know that i will never succeed past the first 8-10 days without some help! I am just wondering if i was to take Methadone about everyother day for the 1st 10 days or so, then do you think my withdrawls will be worse due to the Methadone? Do you think that my body will be dependent on it by then? Even if i only take it every other day, which would=about 5 days worth? I would do it that way because i know that Methadone stays in the system way longer than the typical Norco/pain pill.

I hope i am able to get some help with this. Again, the main question i am asking is "Do you think that i will be dependent on the Methadone after the 10 days are up?"

It was my understanding that addiction already exists.  Methadone is twice the strength, so if used to 5 pills at a time.................. plus longer half life could lead to an OD.

I took a person to an ER in january that switched from oxy's to methadone.  It scares me.

this could easily get out of control

No. You cannot get addicted to methadone in ten days......but all you are doing is dragging out the withdrawals, because when your done taking the methadone,,, i guarantee you will be sick. I titrated down to 10mgs and im still not eating or sleeping barely....three weeks later. It is the one of the hardest opiates to break free from. I highly do NOT recommend it. You need to start a tapering plan or quit cold turkey, thats just my opinion. Good luck.

Nabes- it's not a good idea to put yourself on methadone. It will only postpone the wd's that you will eventually have...and I'm sure you don't want that.
There's no easy way around this, you just need to go through it. We'll be here...

some suppliers can be pushy relatives or friends.  The more you try to quit, the more they give out free ones.

i'm not sure where the methadone is coming from, know its potenial for addiction, I didn't like the sound of an addicted person managing methadone,

What didn't "look good" was the potenial of more addition.  Sure that taper plan may work, but is very tough to stick with on your own.

Definitely NOT hopeless.. you can do this you just need to have a good plan in place for the withdrawal and for your aftercare.  But there is always HOPE if you want to change.
