How long does it take for w/d pain to go away?

Does anyone know in general?  It's really bad, like cry for the first time in a while pain.  I'm not scared anymore because I know I'll be ok and see improvement.  Had great energy today and was thankful for the sleep, no matter how fitful.  The pain is 24 hours and even when the other things are getter it is not.  It gets worse and better though.  I'm literally in tears and would love to hear someone say it will go.  I've been taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen for it and it does not help, I also use heat.  Is there something that someone's tried that seems more effective for this pain?

The sleep thing swings the other way pretty soon. I sleep 8-10 hours now. It is just starting to go back to normal.

OMG I know! isn't that so weird?? I have energy NOW that I didn't realize I lost in those three years.. (the Tramadol always made me soo darn tired and nauseated)
My only trouble now is sleeping through the night.. I'll go to bed around 11pm or maybe an hour later, but I'll wake up around 3am and I'm up for the duration.. lol.. too much energy..
But I wish I had all that energy throughout the day.. My sleep patterns go off and on..
Anyway, I'm gonna hit the sack.. for now.. LOL..
Ttys!

Thanks, you're so sweet.  I'm glad to hear from someone near "my days out".  I've been on heat straight for a couple of years.  It seems hit or miss with me and the Ibuprofen goes as far as relief.  I take the same amount you do.  I'm feeling again too, some not so good, but I do have a renewed energy and zest for life again that I didn't even know was gone!

It's been 15 days for me (was taking 3 Tramadol a day for 3 years- never abused them or took anymore than prescribed, but the tolerance creeped up on me big time!).. On day 5, I felt so much back and leg pain it was unreal! So, I invested in a heating pad.. helped a LITTLE.. I have 800mg Ibuprofen, helps a little, but I started working out again.. stretching is by far the best thing I'd ever done!
Our bodies actually "FEEL" again.. imagine that! Feels good though! Although painful, but we're here- free and alive!
I'd try slight stretching for about 20 mts out of the day, each day.. see if it helps.. I know it helped me..
Love ya guys!

I've been doing a similar breathing technique, helps sometimes.  Thanks for your help, it's nice to hang on to someone once in a while.

Yeah, sneezing is one of the first signs to start.  Watery eyes, runny nose too.  I'm at 13 days today, and I know what you mean.  Yes, it all does eventually go away.  It can take weeks, or even up to 6 mos to go away.  Each sit is diff depending on what you used, how long, and what dose.  Hang in there, I am.  And I'm no peach yet either.

I had no idea that this sneezing was part of the WD. I think I should have read up on WD before I went cold turkey.
After nearly 2 weeks its the restlessness and muscle twitching and aching is driving me insane as well as the tiredness that starts in the early afternoon and doesn't stop until I get up the next morning.  I am feeling a lot more alert and awake than I have for years but when does everything go back to normal?

Yes and tomorrow is day 14, the end of 2 weeks. I still think you will get better. I like to do square breathing. Inhale for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds exhale for 5 seconds hold for 5 seconds. This does help to calm the body.

This morning I was jamming to my MP3 player, feeling like a soldier.  Thrilled to have gotten sleep for the first time, and lookin' forward to getting out with my husband and another couple tomorrow night, I felt like I could help someone else today.  Now, I'm reduced to a hobbled non-me.  This is not me.  I'm a fun, loving, dedicated, loyal, trustworthy, honest, decent, young woman.  That is who I am.

It's day 13, pretty much is two weeks and I've been cramming 800 mg of Ibuprofen every fours hours with no relief.  I don't even know what to say anymore, and for me that's big.....I'm just done right now.....I don't know how to get through this pain, I can hardly breathe.........I just don't know.

The body produces pain to get you to use again. Not saying it all goes away but the intensity lessens. About the end of week 2 mine lifted considerably. I hope you're the same. Some are helped by Advil. I use Flexeril when my back is hurting and tight.

Hi Jacqui

Just read your post.  I know how you feel, and yes, the pain will fade. Trust me, it will.  I too had a very long & difficult w/d.  8 days of praying to die, ending up in the ER twice for liters of fluid, potassium, IV anti-ametics, & clonidine.  The Dr wanted to admit me both times, but I refused. If it wasn't for my three kids, who I love more than life itself, I would have seriously comtemplated suicide, something that had never crossed my mind before.  Day 9, the physical pain began to subside, but I was still unable to function.  I lost 12 lbs, (I got as low as 82 lbs, and I'm 5' 6") & I couldn't even stand unassisted.  I looked as bad as I felt.  But, by day 16 or so, I really began to turn the corner, & started feeling better.   Now, I'm at 5 weeks, and most of the physical w/d is over.  I've gained back all the weight I lost, plus a little more.  I still have the sneezing, and some trouble sleeping.  I also feel lethargic 98% of the time, but a handful of people on here told me that should start going after 90 days clean.  I can't wait.  So, it will get better for you too.  I skimmed your profile & I see that your a nurse.  Have you tried any medications for sleep, like Phenegran?  I've found that to be quite helpful.  You have probably mentioned what you are taking to get through w/d in other posts, so forgive me if you've already metioned what you've tried.  This forum is one busy place, & I can't keep up with reading everyone's stories & progress!  Just know that myself, & lots of others here are keeping you in our thoughts.  Hang in there, the worst of 'the ride' is almost over.

I started off strong today, even though I had pain, it was not like now.  I was bedbound until Nov of last year but I'm not up to moving everyday yet and I'm not sure I could do the bath right now.  I'll try later if I can move.  I was so bad up 'til Nov that I had not had a bath for 11 months.  It's embarrassing, but I had no one to help, and the doc said my insurance wouldn't cover it.  Now I get one-three a week, whenever I feel I can move.  My hubby wants us to go out with another couple tomorrow and this a.m. I was really looking forward to it.  Now I'm hoping I feel as relatively good as I did this morning so I can go.  This is so bad.......thanks for your help......

You are really having a rough day, huh honey?

It will get better, but it does take time. And, you do know everyone is different so everyone recovers different.

Do something nice for yourself today. Like a nice hot bubble bath, candles and a pedicure. Paint your toe nails purple..because you can....LOL

I suffer with chronic back pain and I do use the ibuprofen. I also use a moist heating pad, which is an extension of my body. Most of the time that you see me here, that pad is on.

I hope your day gets better.....and I hope you get some much needed sleep tonight.
