Someone who knows AD

I have been really depressed and two weeks ago last Thursday I was put on effexor 37.5 mg twice daily. I haven't begun to feel better yet and think I may need a higher dose. Do I have to wait a full month to do this if my doctor thinks it's warrented? Or can I get the ball rolling earlier I know that this is a standard starter dose but man I am really tired of feeling crappy. My life is slipping away. Suggestions please. Could I increase the dose ony own( please don't think this is a dumb question, I jst need relief) any help or support wanted and welcome.

Not feeling to good today with the ear infection and all, but I haven't cried yet today and hopfully won't have to. It seems like a faucet that has it's own controls of and on at the drop of a hat. Go figure.

Saw the doctor today, my effexor was raised to 50mg twice daily and I have a recheck at three weeks. I also have a severe ear infection which doesn't surprise me as I have always gotten some bug or somthing when I am stressed. I've had some pain but I just thought it was part of the depression. The doctor offered me some benzo to help with sleep and relaxing at night but I told her no thanks. Last thing I need right now is anything my addict mind can use against me later. Of course it felt like pulling a tooth out to tell her no but I figured I better do it before I could change my mind.

So I called the doctor and they won't so anything till I see them my appointment was for July 15th and I said that seemed like forever away. So they are squeezing me in tomorrow at 3:15. I guess we will see. For so long I self medicated and now that I am sober and experiancing a major deppressive episode I feel like I am at the mercy of doctors, my own brain, and time. I remember when time would fly by and now it's at a frigging crawl.

HI Becca you might want to check into some amino acids they help regulate brain chemistry...there is a section on the right hand side of the screen called the amino acid protacall it will give you some supplements that can help jump start your brain into producing a balance of the correct chemicals most can be used safely on A/Ds
this will be a natural way to help heal your brain...it worth looking into...I personally
drink whey protein shakes...2 a day there loaded with vitamins as well as amino acids along with the protein all of witch the brain needs to heal...you can pick up a 2 lb can up at walmart for 15 bucks the chocolate flavor is good and all you do is mix it with milk
I feel it has helped me a lot..its a cheep fix give it a try...good luck and God bless...Gnarly

Hi Becca~  So,you're on 75mg a day...Call the doctor tomorrow and ask about an increase. I would think after two weeks you would feel some changes.  Talk to them and be very clear on how bad you feel...I'm sure they'll raise it.

Sorry about this. It's usually a really effective AD.

Hi and welcome ! I know AD`s quite well as I have been on them off and on for 14 years including effexor . 37.5 is the standard starting dose . Hold on my friend it takes time for it to start working . I'm sure your doctor will up the dose when he feels its time . Please do not self medicate as you can end up feeling worse then you do now . Did your doctor give you Xanax or any other type of Benzodiazepine to help you threw the rough spots ? If not you might inquire about getting a script . You should be close to the timeline it takes for AD`s to start kicking in . But you will start to feel better so hold on my friend .. Jimmy
