What were you prescribed them for? Anxiety, i would guess... Are you taking more per day than prescribed? Why does your dr say not to take 5 mg. I know it is a high amount, but what was her reasoning?
I have a husband who takes 5 a day of 1 mg. He has Generalized Anxiety Disorder. If any other person took that much we'd be drooling and dozing off, but it doesn't affect him that way. So, I know there are clinical reasons to take higher doses of anxiety meds. For me, I am addicted to vicodin and the xanax doesn't tempt me at all. Thank fully. I have a big problem with opiates, though. So I just want to let you know the people here will respond and they really care about each other.
I genuinely want to quit, but right now I am still taking some and it makes me feel sad that I don't havemy fight back, but the people here still care about me and want me to get back on the path to freedom.

Hi sonu and welcome:)

I've been tapering of off short- and long acting benzos and I'm clean for over 500 days now.
Like Georgia said benzos need to be tapered off with dr supervision.
You can inform yourself, there's a great site which seems to be the reference in the matter, here's the link: http://www.benzo.org.uk/
Best of luck to you. Sophie.

Hi:  Even if you don't feel comfortable telling YOUR Dr...tell an emergency room Dr...or switch to another Dr. so that you can feel comfortable talking about this with a Dr.
Drs understand that people get hooked on medication....they are Dr's and most of them are compassionate.  When you become honest...the problem doesn't feel as big...especially if you can get the Doctors support.

Hi sonu! I'm 24 days clean from Xanax and let me tell u it's wonderful. You need to call your doctor and get real honest about this. Coming off cold turkey can be dangerous especially if u have high blood pressure. Your doctor can put u on a slow taper until it is safe to completely stop. It's a tough ride for a few days. I had a migraine for a few days and felt pretty crappy but it left as quick as it came. It is very doable and I know u can do it too! I'll be thinking about u and keep us posted! There r many people who quit that nasty little pill and are free and happy, u can be too!! Just don't forget to let your doctor know what's going on. Quitting opiates won't kill u but Xanax and other related drugs can cause seizures when stopped suddenly. I don't want to freak u out, I just want u to be careful
